  • What was the Super Speed Tunnel exactly?

I know it was where the Tron scene was in PeopleMover. Can someone give me a detailed description of exactly what it was?

Your car moved into a tunnel that surrounded the track onto which a film cilp from Tron (the racing sequence) was projected. The action onscreen was very fast and gave you the illusion of racing through the room when in fact you were moving at the same slow spped all the time. There where several other rooms you moved through, all showing different cilps from the movie and all giving the illusion of speed. Prior to the Tron makeover the tunnels showed racing cars, boats and other stuff to give the illusion of speed. Some worked better than others.

Hopefully when they redo thi attraction they could redo this section and make it similar to the old superspeed tunnel but update it to todays cars and stuff and make it work more. The other option is to go to Magrathea and see the planet building industry(someone else stated it on some other forum but it's a really neat idea. Yes the movie stunk but that was one of the better sequences

        In a word?

        Lame.

The only weak point in the ride, really. But when and if Peoplemover ever returns, I'm sure they'll do something better. Even just digital projections to music (ala IASW) would be nice.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

Amen, Morrigoon. That stuporspeed tunnel, in both incarnations, was so cheesy I was embarrassed everytime we crept threw it. Ugh!

Keep it dead and buried. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Another amen here. One of the things I liked best about the Peoplemover was that it was kind of quiet and relaxing in its own way. Correct me if I'm wrong - but in that same area, wasn't there a model of Walt Disney's city concept - EPCOT?

Prior to the rather ironic "Super Speed Tunnel", the track passed behind the city of the future model which was far more interesting.

If you really miss it, here's the recipe:

              Super Speed Tunnel
              2 bed sheets
              1 projector
              1 fan
Set up bed sheets, project speed boats and cars, aim fan at face.

Ride it yourself! Sort of. MiceAge's own Kevin Yee released a PeopleMover video onto the net sometime and I've picked it up from some site somewhere.

PS: Kevin, if for some reason you don't want this here PM me and I'll remove it.

I'll agree that it wasn't that impressive, but it's much better that what we have now.

Another vote for COOL. I liked the SuperSpeed Tunnel! I think it was cool even for my 50+ year age. Bring it or someting like it back!

BTW: The old PeopleMover with the SST was much better then the Rocket Rods!

                        Just MHO, YMMV

Re: What was the Super Speed Tunnel exactly?

I have an Idea. Instead of just showing the the superspeed tunnel have the peoplemover speeding through the city of the future really fast. It would be like sst exept with a city like walt's concept of epcot. The pm would slow down but projections on the sides would make it seem really fast. It would be really neat instead of a small model.

Lame. It was a projector on bed sheets. BED SHEETS!!!!!! I bet nobody went through there with the lights on, or looked at the bottom. They did not even spend money on proper screens. BED SHEETS!!!!!!!!!
