  • News Matterhorn down for testing for 2 weeks in April

I was checking online to see what hours, etc. would be for our visit and it looks like the Matterhorn will be closed for testing April 16 - 19th. Another site said it would be closed again the following week. We will be there the next Tuesday through Thursday.

This will be the THIRD TRIP IN A ROW that I have missed the Matterhorn! I went on it for my first trip in 1990, they were down for refurb in 1996, down for the major overhaul last year when I was there and now will be closed again!

I was hoping to ride it to make up for BTMRR being down, but now they're BOTH down. This sucks. And of course I will miss it AGAIN. I can only really afford to make one trip per year and I thought I had planned it around ride closures, but no dice. I guess I'll resign myself to not riding the Matterhorn again so I stop getting my hopes dashed.

I wonder what they are testing. We were on it recently and realized how much that ride kicks your butt. Litterally, never sit in the back seat. *rubs bottom* I would love it if they would make it a smoother ride.
Also, Saturday night, Harold wasn't feeling well. We didn't see his glowing eyes. He was napping in the first scene and the lights were completely off in the second. He must have been asleep at that point.
Peter Pan: "You know, your hair is on fire."
Me: "Yes. It happened after a recent trip to Neverland."
Peter Pan: "Well, you can dunk your head in the pond behind us, if you want."

That must be frustrating to have to miss the ride every time you go. Anyways, I wonder if this so called testing has any implications of more comfortable sleds.

It's a bummer you're missing the attraction but personally it's for the better right now I think. That new sleds are pretty rough on the knees/entire body. And that is coming from a 22 year old.

          One can only hope.....
No worries, stay calm, one question.
Do you happen to know how to fly this thing?

At least in the current, painful state of the ride, you really aren't missing much.

Two words help explain this needed testing: Sand Bags. The ride is a complete mess, and they are trying to re-engineer the vehicles and ride system again. It's a total mess.

In the meantime, let's hurt some guests for another six weeks.

Maybe they are testing new bobsleds?

I'm also hoping they are somehow revamping the sleds to be more comfortable, even if it is just padding on the seats. It seems like the new sleds cause the rider to sit primarily on their tailbones, and that maybe amplifies the jarring that I don't recall feeling pre-refurb?

Does anyone know why they never consider new smoother tracks. It would reenergize this ride the way Space Mountain was. My wife and I NEVER ride it anymore and we usually ride every ride at every park. It just isn't enjoyable anymore and quite frankly wasn't, even before the sled change.

Maybe put the old sleds back in?

They are testing to see how much pain guests are willing to tolerate.

I'm all for making the sleds themselves more comfortable, but let's not forget what makes this ride unique is the bobsled factor. They're not smooth to travel in. The sleds should be comfortable, but making the ride itself less bumpy would defeat the purpose of the ride.
