The Heroine was a Taft High School Senior who was there with the school choir. She was a lifeguard with cpr training. Along with the help of a nurse who also responded to the cries for help, they helped save the toddler who was choking on some spaghetti. A Disneyland official gave her an all day fast pass to use on various rides.

Nice to hear a story with a happy ending. Hope the toddler doesn't have any lasting problems as a result.

There are so many more 'good kids' than 'bad kids' out there but we never seem to hear about them. It is wonderful to read something good about a teenager instead of a story about teenage misdeeds. She sounds like a lovely young woman. I know the CM gave her 3 fast passes but I do hope that Disney does something a little bit more for her. Maybe a free annual pass for a year? Or at least a free park hopper for a return trip.

People shouldn't be rewarded for doing the right thing, which she was able to do out of the goodness of her heart. No matter, I'm glad there are people that young who can help in such occasions.

fantastic story. Cheered me up on a Monday morning
The new Star Wars plot summery:

Episode 7: Luke discovers that Darth Vader is not his father, and goes on a search for his real father

Episode 8: Darth Vader is resurrected and goes on Jerry Springer, claiming he is Luke and Leia's father

Episode 9: Princes Leia is not Luke's sister, making him furious (we all know why...).

I would think that the statement should actually read: People shouldn't do good deeds with the thought of being rewarded. They hopefully do them out of the goodness of their hearts.

But after the right thing is done, it is completely appropriate, that gratitude be shown and some type of token be awarded (where possible) to show appreciation and thanks.

You're right. People shouldn't do good deeds with the thought of being rewarded for doing them, at all. But I somehow still meant what I said, even though yours comes out better. Ms. Jewell knew she was able to do something and chose to act. The CM then gave her fastpasses out of the goodness of his/her heart, not to be a reward, but maybe an act of kindness, or as you said, of gratitude. They shared the same feeling of being able to do something for someone and did it. That deed alone is a reward. I understand we all love to be rewarded for being good and life may be rewarding at some point. I just hope people wouldn't have taken what I said as bad as it may have looked.

this is a great story. I got engaged at the park last month and actually saved a mans life literally RIGHT before i proposed. Makes for a great story.

I'm surprised the media headlines don't say: Toddler's life saved by heroic guest at Disneyland... White Rabbit under investigation for ignoring initial cries for help.
Many Bothans died to bring you these fastpasses.
