  • [Question] Pre-park meal-Rainforest Cafe or not?

Hello- Thinking ahead to my June 18-22 trip, I want to plan dinner for my family the night we arrive, before hitting the parks the next day. We are staying at the Best Western Park Place and can easily go to IHOP (my kids are picky eaters, but breakfast for dinner always works). But, we have never eaten at the Rainforest Cafe.

My question is, is it worth the effort and money? I already have reservations for Ariel's Grotto and Carnation Cafe when we are in the parks.

    Thanks!

I'd say skip it. The Rainforest Cafe, tends to be overpriced for what you get. The food is just so-so. This location is not the best, the wait here is quite excessive, whenever I've been.

I am not planning on ever eating at the Rainforest Cafe again. In my opinion, it is a waste of time and money. The wait to just get in is ridiculous. I think the fastest I have ever been seated is 6omin. The food isn't that great either.

I really like the Jazz Kitchen and am hopefully going to be eating there tomorrow night. The food is good, it isn't too expensive, and it's easier to get into.

I say skip. It is over hyped. I have only been there twice when out of town family/friends were visiting and insisted on here. Food is not that great, wait is long, and both times I went, out servers went of break and they forgot about our tables! I have had no luck there. The Denny's tho... they know how to handle orders and get you fed! The Jazz kitchen is great, Tortilla Joes has good food too! ESPN zone has good food but then your kids might want to play in the arcade and that gets kinda pricey!

I enjoy the atmosphere at Rainforest more than anything and the Jazz Kitchen is great! You may want to try a restaurant at one of the Disney Hotels too....Tangaroa's Terrace is really good and pretty inexpensive or Goofys Kitchen is fun, yet much pricier.

Thanks so much for the advice! Definitely leaning towards skipping Rainforest Cafe.

If your kids are little I would recommend against it too. I've seen kids freak out in there when the thunder storm starts up and the animals especially the gorillas start moving around.

I agree. Last time I went with my cousins (ages 6 and 8 at the time) they spent our whole meal ducked under the table because they were scared by the thunderstorms and the moving animals.

When I visit DL, it's me, my daughter (19) and several of her friends.

We always have breakfast at the Rainforest once each trip, sometimes twice; we've been coming for about 8 years.

The atmosphere is great, it's along the lines of what you'd expect at DL. But, as others have stated, the food is not very good and it's pretty spendy.

Make your own decision, but I'd recommend visiting once, with the knowledge that you'll be paying a ton of money for lousy food but a great atmosphere.

I think it's a great place for the ambiance, the animals, and the theming. That being said, I've noticed there food going down in quality (most notably the pepperoni).

It's been a while since I last ate at the Rainforest. But it was a pretty good time with a very short wait, good service and good food too. I can imagine that things have changed, especially from what I've read. Maybe try one of the hotel restaurants for some Disney ambiance.

I actually enjoyed the PCH Grill inside Paradise Pier. The breakfast buffet was awesome and you're guaranteed to at least meet Mickey.

Go across the street on Harbor and eat at Millies. Better food, better prices.

What about just having dessert at Rainforest Cafe one afternoon or evening? You'll get a chance to experience the atmosphere without spending a ton of money. You'd also get a chance to check out the menu and prices (plus other peoples plates), then you could decide if you'd like to go back for a full lunch or dinner.
