  • [Idea] Disney Land Australia

How much do you think it would cost to build a brand new Disney Park from Scratch? What is be worth it in Australia?

    Re: Disney Land Australia

It would be awesome but it would probably very expensive. Where would you build it? On the Gold Coast where a lot of the other Australian theme parks are? Or in the Sydney or Melbourne area?
Welcome to MiceChat! I have some friends in Adelaide that I met on a New Zealand and Australia cruise. I can't wait to return to Australia. It's a beautiful place.

I've always heard that Australia's population just isn't big enough to make this idea feasible.

Australia rocks, I would love to go back!

It would be nice to have a Disney-Australia park. Right now I think for anyone from Australia or New Zealand it's at least 10 hours on a plane up to Hong Kong/Japan. It would be lovely to have something closer.

That would be my guess, too. Australia gets a ton of tourists but the question would be, is there enough local + tourist traffic and interest to sustain it?

            Re: Disney Land Australia

I would say after Shanghai either Disney would plop a new park in Australia or India. I would say Australia would be a better option because of India's still developing status in the more populated places like New Delhi but Disney should start grabbing land for that purpose now. In Australia it would have to be in either the greater Sidney or Melbourne area. If in Sidney it would be near Liverpool or Blacktown because of the proximity to the international airport and land availability.

I think Brazil is the next likely choice for another park.

                    Re: Disney Land Australia

The real issue a Disney Australia park would have would be the weather. It would be stupid to put it anywhere south of Sydney because the weather is super unpredictable. The smartest place to put it would be on the Gold Coast in Queensland, near the other Australian Theme Parks (Wet and Wild, Dreamworld and Warner Bros. Movie World.) Because if tourists are there, they will go too all of them.

How much do people think it would cost to build a theme park from scratch?

Disney won't pay for a new Resort complex themselves. The cost will be well over $1 billion and no investing partner will let them get away with a cheaper park, seeing what happened with Disney's California Adventure, Walt Disney Studios Park and especially Hong Kong Disneyland.

I think that could have the effect of siphoning off too much business from Walt Disney World.

Man I miss being in Australia! Melbourne specifically especially wandering around downtown or even on Lygon street. So many awesome places to eat.

A small Marvel park is moving forward without Disney in Dubai. Disney deliberately chose not to get into the Dubailand mess.

Disney is always looking for new places to expand into, there were rumours back in 2004 of an Australian Disney Park, however they decided that at that point in time it was unfeasible to build one as there wasn't a huge tourism market, currently the Queensland theme parks are only super busy on school holidays which last about two weeks every 13 weeks..
