  • [Question] How Would You Categorize Disneyland Rides Today?

    Hi everyone,

Just curious, I've been looking at a lot of vintage Disneyland ticket books (holding A,B,C,D and E tickets) recently and was wondering how you all would classify the attractions Disneyland currently holds into those categories? I guess it would take a while to type it all up, but I thought it would be fun to hear from people what they think? (unless someone already made a thread like this, then woops :lol

Jumpin' Jellyfish is definitely an E-ticket.

In your Disneyland list I'd bump the mechanical rides (Mad Tea Party, Astro Orbiter, Carousel, Dumbo.) up to the "C" list.

Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean need to be repromoted to the "E" list.

My reasoning was that the original ticket scheme listed the Carousel as an "A" and I figure if we're being honest the other spinner rides aren't significantly different types of attractions.

As for Pirates and HM, I agree, they're top shelf Disney attractions, but again, I'm going for objective "type" of ride, not subjective quality, and so boat rides/omni-movers I'd say are no longer the pinacle of theme park design (unlike the technologically advanced, but arguably less subjectively "good" E-tickets)

If Pirates and Haunted Mansion aren't E-tickets, then nothing is. imo

Agreed. People erroneously think E ticket means thrill ride, when it really should mean the "cream of the crop."

I think the E-Ticket should be the Fastpass ones (and some others like Matterhorn). It's hard to categorize because I'd E/D-ticket all of it.

I have ridden both the Disneyland and Magic Kingdom ones

Fair point, but then you get into the issue of subjectivity vs. objectivity. That Pirates and HM are among the best attractions Disney's ever done is a subjective (though widely accepted) opinion. For my list I was trying to be as objective as possible.

Traditionally the E-ticket attactions were the ones that boasted the newest, most cutting-edge experiences (The Enchanted Tiki Room made the list when it was first introduced because audio animatronics were brand spanking new). That's what I tried to stick with on my list. Granted, I did fall victim to the thrill ride bias; if we're sticking to the aforementioned qualifaction for E-ticket status Matterhorn probably wouldn't qualify anymore.
