  • Journey to the Center of the Earth Attraction

I propose radical change to Tomorrowland. First off the Journey to the Center of the Earth Attraction for Tomorrowland.....I propose rerouting the monorail track to have a shorter track and a new station. The Autopia would be gutted and the area of the DL map where the subs are as well as the Autopia is where the attraction would be. Although I love Autopia, driving cars is part of our normal life..I know kids love them but Tomorrowland need radical change..any ideas..thoughts?

    (summary from this great link)
"Journey to the Center of the Earth is one of, if not the most thrilling attractions in Tokyo DisneySea. It is part dark ride, part thrill ride, and is unique to DisneySea.

Based on the Jules Verne novel of the same name, Journey to the Center of the Earth takes you on a winding trip down to the earth's core. Along the way you will encounter crystal caverns, strange creatures, and a variety of special effects that make this attraction one incredible feast for the eyes. Often breathtaking, sometimes scary, you could ride this attraction dozens of times and still not see everything.

The attraction's queue is nearly as exciting as the ride itself. The queue has two parts. The first part has you working your way past makeshift laboratories with items apparently taken from previous expeditions. This queue ends at one of several large elevators, which transport you at high speed down below the earth's surface. The second queue takes you past huge drilling machines, giant electrical transformers, and other support equipment necessary for a journey of this magnitude.

The vehicles you ride in are pretty amazing themselves. They are large cars with giant shovels on the front, and look rugged enough to actually take you on a trip underground. The technology built into the cars allows them to travel smoothly at a variety of speeds, from slow, "sightseeing" tempo all the way to up rollercoaster quick. (I have read they are based on the same technology as the ride cars in Epcot's Test Track.) Although it gets pretty speedy at the end, the ride is never rough.

Journey to the Center of the Earth is one of DisneySea's premier attractions, and unless you have no tolerance whatsoever for thrill rides, this is a "must do" attraction. This is a fantastic ride that does not disappoint."

Might be more appropriate for a Discovery Bay sub-land in Frontierland ...lots of unused land there .......

Yes this attraction would work in Frontierland but the sci-fi elements could put it in Tomorrowland.

Aren't the sci-fi elements more Jules Verne-ish than modern sci-fi? I think they are aiming for a more modern theme in TL ...... hence the new paint job ....

Putting this ride on the back end of Tommorrowland, even further north of the Submarine Bay would be cool, unfortunatly it would be hard to get rid of the Autopia station because of the Chevron contract.

The station is sitting on top of an old gasoline spill, which is burned off daily by a Chevron sponsered clean up. Until the spill is completly cleaned up the ride will remain. I would conceive a "Cars" overlay before the destruction of that ride, because it is wildly popular, cheap to maintain and one of Walt's favorites.

The "Journey to the Center of the Earth" ride would be a great connection between Tommorrowland and Fantasyland where dreams and fantasies of tommorrow collide.

There was also a rather interesting post on a similar thread about an idea for entire area dedicated to Julies Verne attractions.

I think it works in Tomorrowland. Maybe a bit more futuristic than the Tokyo version.

Of course, I'm partial to putting the Barbary Coast elements to DCA, but that leaves but that leaves plenty of elements including the IATTOTW and Mythia, Land of Legends, etc.
Here is the picture from a similar post about an idea for an expansion called Discovery Bay.

Between this thread and expansion ideas proposed all through out this crazy chat, we could build an entire orginal park with a new name

                  -Maelstorm- Viking ride
-Discovery Bay- Journey ride, Man on the Moon simulator, Around the World in 80 Days Ballon Experiance and a replica Nautilis from 20, 000 Leagues
                  -Sinbad's Adventure
                  -Storm Chasers
                  -Time Travel ride

Heck you name it, this park could be like a second Disneyland with a catchy name and theme

Although the ride is indeed Jules Verne inspired, I'm sure that the ride itself could be more smoothly incorperated into the current Tomorrowland theme (which has some Verne elements in itself). I think that a way to tie the Verne theme in with the blue and white color scheme is definitely feasible, and would present to opportunity for differentiation between our version and their version.

Why Tomorrowland? Why Disneyland at all?

I love what I've heard about the ride, but perhaps it could be rethemed somewhat into a California-earthquake theme ride for DCA. Scientists delving into the tectonic plates to figure out/prevent earthquakes ... when something goes disastrously wrong. Drop the Jules Verne and go with modern pseudo-science ala the recent move "The Core."

                        Brilliant!

I think they're trying to stay away from the earthquake thing to keep a positive spin on California, but I think this would be way awesome. I saw some video of the ride in Tokyo, and it looked so cool! I'd love for a ride that used similar technology to sprout up here!

you realize that Journey uses the same ride system as Test Track

and Test Track's prototype was "bumbumbuM!!!!!!" ROCKET RODS!!!!!!!!

anywho I've heard we may this ride system too in DCA but not as an earthquake ride (that was more of a fan's wish) but as a Cars themed ride

however nothing is for sure on DCA's next Eticket except that it will be origional and it will be opening in 2007-2008 timeframe (similar to Nemo in Disneyland)

This attraction could work in CA adventure too but I prefer it to be in DL.

                                  I perfer it in TokyoSea

I dunno Journey is neat but it's the icon for TokyoSea it seems like cloning the futuresphere if you ask me

                                  I dunno

I'm hearing rumors that WDW will be getting this attraction sometime in the futrue! I like the idea of having a ride like that in DCA as well.
