  • [Question] Matterhorn refurbishment this summer?

I read somewhere the Matterhorn may be closed for refurbishment this summer, end of July, beginning of August. Does anyone have any additional information? This would be really lame, as this is our 3rd visit in 3 years at this time of year, and it was closed 2 years ago.
    Any info would be appreciated!

I don't know too much, but I think it might have something to do with updating the rough, uncomfortable bobsleds. I know they received quite a few complaints about them.

I know that in April the bobsleds were scheduled to be down for two weeks for "testing" but that said testing was posponed due to the unexpected closure of Space Mountain. It may be that the "testing" was just rescheduled to summer.

Please let them do SOMETHING about those bobsleads. The ride used to be so much fun, now it comes with a degree pain I am not fond of.

The new sleds absolutely ruined one of the parks top rides. That is not an overstatement.

The old sleds must still be sitting in a warehouse somewhere, shouldn't they? Put them back out and do some old fashioned post-ride guest experience interviews. Or even better, put the old sleds on one side, the new ones on the other, and and let the people choose!

Greenalfonzo: Great idea!! I second that one. I agree those new bobsleds are horrendous. Fix the Matterhorn and smooth out the ride please!

                  It's the rail/sled.
If they won't address the rail, build a softer sled. Cushions...

                  or springs on the rollers...
                  something

we used to LOVE the 'horn but now we avoid the jarring spinal trauma and migraine maker.

                  miss the ride

I hope they go down soon, I rode them last night an my butt still hurts. On the other hand keep an eye on the calendar portion of the Disneyland website for an upcoming refurbishment. They post the park schedule 6 weeks in advance.

I am with everyone else here...please oh please let that "refurb" be replacing the sleds with ones that aren't so painful.

If it'll be down for refurb, I could only imagine them fixing the sleds.

                          Re: Matterhorn refurbishment this summer?

I guess I'm the only one here who didn't experience any pain whatsoever on the new sleds. I had a blast on the matterhorn lapping the singles rider line at night with my friends last time I was there. Must have rode it at least 20 times that trip, enough to discover seat four is the best.

If you want to experience a painful coaster, ride the very back seat of the ghost rider at Knott's.

Maybe they should have left them as was

I hope it's something to do with the bobsleds. I spoke with a Guest Services CM on the phone and when I mentioned the sleds she flat out told me they have had a substantial number of complaints about them.
