  • [Question] Confused About Early Morning Admission

I am visiting Disneyland & CA from Aug 16th until Aug 21-2013. We are staying at the Disneyland Hotel. I understand we have early admission everyday to one of the two parks.

Is the entire Disneyland Park open early on the early admission days. Splash Mountain, Space Mountain , Indian Jones etcc. I seem to remember the entire park being open.

I was also reading that fast passes are not available until the park opens. Is this incorrect???

Any information would be most appreciated.

Re: Confused About Early Morning Admission

As per the Disneyland Website, the Magical Mornings are Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday for Disneyland Park and Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays for Disney California Adventure Park. Carsland will not open until Park Opening.

Also, during Magic Mornings, only the East Side of the park is open, such as Tomorrowland and Fantasyland.

That is correct, no Fast Passes are available until park opening.

EDIT: Whoops, Carsland IS OPEN during Magic Mornings

What a drag. It used to be quite a bit better than that.

Is all of CA open on the early mornings?

        I don't remember that.

It seems that all of CA will be open for Magic Morning, except for Carsland.

Re: Confused About Early Morning Admission

Early Admission is good, but it's not "stellar", as in, it could be a lot better.

Here is what you need to know:
Disneyland -only on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays
DCA - only on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays

To gain entry you have to show your park ticket and your hotel key. You should plan on getting to Disneyland or DCA a minimum of 25-30 minutes before your early hour begins, or you will be in line for a good portion of your time. Disneyland will tell you 15 minutes, but I have seen more people waste time in line instead of spending that time in the parks, so I always say 30 minutes is best.

As for what is available during that hour, usually what is available at Disneyland is:
          Fantasyland:
          Alice In Wonderland
          Castle walk through
          Dumbo The Flying Elephant
          King Arthur Carousel
          Mad Tea Party
          Matterhorn Bobsleds
          Mr Toad's Wild Ride
          Peter Pan's Flight
          Pinocchio's Daring Journey
          Snow White's Scary Adventures

          Tomorrowland:
Astro Orbitor (there are times when this is not open during early morning hour, not sure the pattern on it, maybe a maintenance thing)
          Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters
          Finding Nemo Submarines
          Monorail
          Space Mountain
          Star Tours

Of course many of the Main Street gift shops are open as well.

At DCA, these are generally available during the extra morning hour:
          California Screamin'
          Luigi's Flying Tires
          Mater's Junkyard Jamboree
          Radiator Springs Racers
          Soarin Over California
          The Little Mermaid
          Tower of Terror
          Toy Story Mania

For Disneyland, I always recommend that people with young children prioritize what the kids really want to go on, but usually I recommend Nemo, the Matterhorn, and Peter Pan before moving onto other things, such as Dumbo and Buzz. For the older set, I always recommend Space Mountain, Star Tours, the Matterhorn, and Peter Pan, again prioritize on what's important.

At DCA, obviously Cars Land is the big draw, I recommend starting with Radiator Springs Racers, pick and choose what else you want to do in Cars Land, and then head to Toy Story Mania. The older kids generally prefer Radiator Springs Racers, California Screamin', and Tower Of Terror.

One more thing, you can access Fast Pass lines during Extra Magic Hour, but you can't get a Fast Pass, after you've hit your priorities, get in line for a Radiator Springs Racers Fast Pass if your child is dying to ride it again, though many times you can hit it more than once during the Extra Magic Hour.

It may not be what it once was, but it's still better than standing at the turnstile and watching other people go in before you.

If you are staying at the Grand Californian, go to the main gate for DCA, not the private entrance. Everyone staying at the Grand Californian uses the private gate for early entrance, and the main gate line at that point of time is actually shorter (speaking only about the extra magic hour).

Keep in mind that people run during the extra magic hour to Radiator Springs Racers, and it's not uncommon to get a 25-35 minute wait, even during the extra magic hour, if you don't hustle down there. (So hustle if it's a priority). I still like to use a Fast Pass for Radiator Springs Racers, even with the extra magic hour, but that is just my personal preference, I like to take my time and enjoy things. I've been known to do Toy Story Mania, Mater's, and Luigi's, then line up for a Fast Pass, instead of running to Radiator Springs Racers (again that's personal preference).

A lot of first time extra magic hour guests want to squeeze in breakfast, during the extra magic hour. I don't recommend this, I recommend that you eat before you go, why spend time taking time out to eat, when you can do that when the park opens.
