  • [Question] Carthay Circle vs. Napa Rose - your thoughts?

Hello all. A good friend of my wife and myself is planning her 30th birthday outing at DLR, and she wants to try a nice restaurant on the property that she hasn't been to before. She's primarily interested in Carthay Circle and Napa Rose. I've eaten at CC but not NR.

For those that have been to both, which do you prefer and why?

You can't beat Napa Rose at the Chef's table, although they both have great food (makes sense as Andrew Sutton is executive chef of both).

I agree! I think a wonderful birthday treat would be the chef's table at Napa Rose. It's very pricey but a nice and unique experience. Just make sure to make a reservation way in advance. There are two seating times for the table.

Both restaurants are great options. I would third the idea of the chef's table at Napa for a very unique experience. The cost for the table is really up to you as you can order whatever you wish off the menu (check menu prices for an idea of what it will cost you). However, should you sit there, you really should choose to do the chef's menu which is the same price as the weekly four course prix fixe menu ($90-100) and has the chef designing you a meal tailored to your personal tastes. It is an amazing dinner and a show, and our go-to special occasion dinner-date.

100% Napa Rose. The service is exceptional and the food great!
You won't be sorry. Be sure to make reservations ahead of time.

Re: Carthay Circle vs. Napa Rose - your thoughts?

The service is much better at Napa Rose. Much better.

Service and CM standards at Carthay are good, for a theme park. But that's comparing them to the CM standards of Tomorrowland Terrace or Wine Country Trattoria, and the CM's at Carthay are nowhere near the real-world upscale standards of Napa Rose.

Napa Rose is very good, for Disney. But compared to the other top-notch restaurants in Orange County like Pelican Hill, Montage Hotel, Islands Hotel, Laguna Ritz, etc., etc. the Napa Rose merely keeps up with the Joneses. Napa Rose can sometimes meet the standards of those other places, but it can also often be outdone by them.

If you are planning a special dinner anywhere on Disneyland property, pick Napa Rose. If you are planning a special dinner but you don't want to leave DCA, pick Carthay. But the Napa Rose is only a five minute walk from the Carthay Circle via the Grand Californian theme park gate, so you really should just go to Napa Rose.

Maybe just stop in for a cocktail one afternoon at Carthay Circle, instead? Just don't expect truly polished service there.

Napa Rose is the best restaurant in Orange County.

                Carthay Circle is "meh."

Carthay Circle is definitely "meh." And while I plan to one day experience Napa Rose, I also plan to be not impressed by it. Just a feeling I have with the way everyone raves about it.
It's actually "Cars Land", not "Carsland".

Carthay is a better experience but Napa Rose has better food.

But they're both great choices! It's not like either is lousy haha.

I'll echo the chorus and say Napa Rose....without a doubt.

I enjoyed the atmosphere on one of the terraces at sunset at Carthay more than at a random table at Napa but I have heard great things about the Chef's table. The food that I have had at each has been good both times we went. Either way, I think you are choosing between a 9.8 and a 9.7 restaurant. They are both good choices and neither choice will be the wrong one

Napa Rose, hands down. Definitely do the chef's table, as well as the wine pairing.

                          Ask for Saucy.

I go to Carthay when I want to save money, and I don't mind inconsistent service.
