  • [Fun] Autopia Appreciation Thread!

    Hello, Micechatters.

As someone who has been on these boards for 7 years almost, I'd like to start a thread for the Autopia lovers out there!

Autopia is my favorite attraction in the park because it holds a place in my heart since it was the first attraction I loved as a child going to Disneyland. It was the thrill of going onto a car and feeling the excitement of going while looking over the front of the car. Now as an adult who has learned to drive on his own, I can enjoy that excitement driving on my own car.

If you love Autopia yourself, show your appreciation!

I enjoy it, there must be some kid in me who doesn't have a license.

It was great when I was a kid and is still great for kids.

I took a few spins on it last year when the closure rumors were swirling and, surprise, surprise, I enjoyed it quite a bit. There are parts of Disneyland that you won't see any other way and since my rides were invariably at night there's a strange secluded feeling in many parts of it. I think I had a better time riding it then than when I was a kid since I used to be terrible at steering (I remember going clunk, clunk, clunk on the guide rail) and it seemed harder to push the gas pedal then.

Brings back memories for me too, Rocker. It was also the first attraction I trained on as a new CM back in '83 so it will always hold a great place in my heart. Loved working it too.

Someday, kids will drive their own cars.

          Until then, there's Tomorrowland.

It's also fun when fireworks are going off too.

It's great fun with friends because you can heckle each other the whole way. The biggest downside would be how hot the line is.

Drats, another physically hard ride to explore fireworks and their magic over Disneyland!!! MY non driving , refuses to drive, 19 year old still lingers around the borders but space mountain is always whispering in his ear.

I actually love Autopia! It truly is a Disneyland classic. While I agree that it could use an update, I hope that it sticks around for the foreseeable future. Sure, it may not have a whole lot of appeal to those who have a driver's license, but it's great for those who don't yet! This is one of the attractions that I'm hoping to share with my future children, and I can't wait to see the joy they're going to get from driving a car!

I always enjoyed Autopia as a kid. But as I grew up, I must have turned into Peter Banning and forgot what fun I use to have. I did enjoy it with my kids, but having it breakdown wasn't fun at all. I must admit, when I got home and the smell of gasoline exhaust waffled past my nose, I was immediately taken back to the hot summer days of the sixties driving my own car down the freeway of the future!!!

Autopia is great. I love that attraction so, so much, and I would be devastated to see it go. There was nothing like being a child and getting your own license and car. It was the best. I hope Disney decides to update and upgrade it so it can stay. I hope it stays forever.
