  • Trip Report Disneyland Sept 2013 Trip Report with surprise proposal!

We arrived Thursday around 10am and dropped off our stuff at GCV (first time using our DVC) and headed to the parks since our room wouldn't be ready until 4pm. That was a wake up call. We had no idea it wouldn't be ready that late in the day. Lesson learned.

We spent the day walking around DL/DCA and actually didn't ride a thing, which is very odd for us. Typically we're on the go from open until close, with hardly any breaks, riding as much as can, seeing all the shows, parades that we can, but this time we just soaked up the atmosphere, walked around, ate, shopped, sat on park benches and people watched. It was a very unique experience for us and we loved it!

The surprise came that evening when it was time for dinner. My partner said, "Oh by the way, I got us reservations for Napa Rose at 7pm." I thought it was odd, because we had reservations Friday for Steakhouse 55 and Saturday at Carthay Circle. Why did he not tell me about Napa? So we head up to the 6th floor. I'm not paying attention, as my face was buried in my iphone. When we got to the 6th floor, he went to the concierge and "checked in" for dinner. I asked him, "Napa is on the 6th floor?" I had no clue as I've never eaten there. Then someone comes over and takes us to a door leading out to a patio. On the patio is a table for two, with flowers, two kissing Mickey's, wedding pins and a picture signed by Mickey. Also, was a Tuxedo ear hat with the words Marry Me? and the date. Yeah, I lost it. I hadn't expected this from him at ALL.......because I was planning my own proposal the same weekend, proposing to him at the wishing well, where we committed ourselves to one another 7 years ago. I also had ears ordered a month ago, that said "Marry Me?" on them. How in the heck did we both have the same idea on the same weekend? Needless to say, he beat me to the punch and well, we're engaged. After an amazing meal with our own personal waiter (these are called Sweetheart Dinners that Disney offers I think?) the parks were closed so we walked around DTD and called it a night.

The next day his parents showed up and we moved to the 2 bedroom villa. We spent the morning parkhopping, then met with the Disney Wedding specialist around 1pm. Yeah, his parents want to give us a Disney Dream Wedding, complete with ceremony at the Rose Garden, pre reception cocktail party, reception in Sleeping Beauty's Reception room. I think there's even a horse drawn carriage in there somewhere. I wasn't into the planning of the wedding at first, thinking I'd let him do it all and I'd just nod my approval. But now I can't stop pinning stuff on pinterest. The date is set for next year, December 5th, so the them will be a white/blue winter theme. We get to meet with our coordinator in December when we go back for our 2nd trip to DL this year. It's been a whirlwind and it's only been a few days.

After the meeting and more park hopping, we had an amazing dinner at Steakhouse 55. I recommend it highly if anyone hasn't tried it. Expensive, but it was worth it. My partners mother got a stomach virus and his father had unexpected work to do, so we didn't see them the rest of the trip. I think they're trying to come back with us in December.

We went to the Friday the 13th party that night at DL, but it was so over crowded, lines were excruciatingly long, people and kids were just plain crabby and we weren't in the mood to stand with 400 other people to get pics with Villians. We walked around once and headed out and back to our room to relax on the balcony before bed.

Saturday was much better and crowds weren't so bad. The heat sure was though. We're from Texas where we can handle 100+ temps, but we were hoping for some nice 70 degree weather, but instead it was in the 90's. We spent the day riding things here and there, enjoying the new shows at the Royal Theater (?) and again park hopped most of the day. Again, we took our time, went slow, sat and enjoyed the atmosphere a lot. I think part of the reason was I had my hip replaced only 4 months ago, and although it wasn't hurting, I was hesitant to over do it.

That night we had an amazing dinner at Carthay Circle followed by seeing World of Color, which even though I've seen it so many times now, it still takes my breath away.

Sunday being our final day, we made sure we rode all the attractions we had missed or needed to ride one more time, got all of our shopping done (we totally over did it and was embarrassed at how much stuff we brought home), ate a lot of bad food for us, then headed back to the hotel for dinner. After a nice rest, we headed back to the park to do our routine of enjoying every last minute that we can, staying late, seeing as much as we can and savoring everything around us.

It truly was a magical weekend in more ways than one.

PS: I forgot to mention we finally got a chance to ride on the Lilly Belle as well as do the Walk in Walts Steps tour which was really great to do and got the chance to see Walt's apartment.

Here's some of my favorite pics from the trip:

    More to come....

Holy cow I'm such a doofus. I must have the wedding year running through my brain. I changed the title of the thread, but it won't change the "main title". Ugh. Shows you where my mind is at.....

And thanks for all the kind words.
