  • [Question] Motor Boat Dock Project?

Couldn't help but notice on Miceage that there are pictures of monorail "splash guards" being placed on portions of the monorail track over the water near the motor boat cruise, not all of the monorail track has these, typically they are placed just over areas where guests walk. Maybe the Autopia's queue is being moved or a meet and greet is slated for this area??

It seems like this is soon to become a guest area, not even the monorail section which goes over the Subs lagoon has splash guards, even though hydraulic fluid leaks into highly filtered water that needs to remain clear. Why would Disney care if a little hydraulic fluid/water condensate leaks over what's left of the motor boat cruise lagoon?

I think it's a safety thing. It's also done in places where someone who is tall could reach up and come into contact with the electrified bar. In the past, this was geared more towards guests, but in the safety-minded world of today, I would assume this is being added to protect landscapers and other staff who may need to access the area.

Possibly . . . but there are much longer stretches of the monorail track over heavily landscaped areas, backstage and onstage, around the train tracks/Autopia where you could walk up and touch the the busbars, though castmembers are given instructions not to do this, and the landscapers are well aware of the monorail track, and they have much more landscaping work to do around the sections over the matterhorn/autopia than the motor boat dock.

Putting splash guards on the really low sections, some which are almost close to the ground, wouldn't keep hands away.

I guess it is possible they are putting splash guards around the entire track, and starting with the motor boat dock portion, but they're also working on the dock (it seems the projects are related), perhaps it will be extended back for a new meet and greet.

You all are probably correct about the safety thing. I'd bet this is just another DOSH project. Besides, the work is being done on the inner loop of the Monorail. If some current rumors hold true, all that track might be removed in the not so distant future. If that happens, one of everyone's favorite photo spots will also vanish to Yesterland: the Monorail cruising over the sub lagoon.
