  • Trip Report Mickey's Halloween Party, Oct 25, 2013 :)

So this is my first trip report. Yay!

My boyfriend and I went to the Halloween party on Friday (October 25). I went as Belle, and he was supposed to go as the Beast, but long-story-short, I suck at making guys clothes. Haha

I had school that day, and didn't get out until 1:20 pm. I wanted to get in the park ASAP, so I raced home and immediately started getting ready. First thing to do was fix my wig, which did not go well and ended up taking me until about 3. I was not happy. I finally finished, did my makeup, got dressed, had my picture by Mom (of course!) and off we went!

Here is a Mom photo: (This is my favorite of the ones she took)

Traffic actually wasn't too bad, considering it was 3:30 - 4ish on the 91. :P We would probably have made it to parking by 4:30, but missed the express ramp...then the regular one...had to go down by Grand Californian to do a U-turn and blah blah blah, we ended up parking in Daisy. I was ready to pee with excitement! Haha as soon as I got out of the car, there was already little girls going, "Belle!" Which made me feel good about my costume. Lol

Got on the tram and had a mini-Merida staring at me the whole way. I wanted to take a picture with her, but didn't know if that would be creepy or not. My boyfriend said it would be "maybe slightly creepy," so I opted not to.

We got through bag check, and I was really excited, and then one of the bag guys told me I needed to wait at the side to have their supervisor or something come look at my costume. I got really nervous because I thought it might be dragging on the floor too much and they would make me change and I had worked really hard on it, so I definitely did not want that to happen. The supervisor guy came and started telling me that I wouldn't be able to go on any rides and couldn't take pictures with guests, or sign autographs. Stuff I already knew. Then a group with another Belle, a Cinderella, and a Fairy Godmother came through and he told them the same things and then we were let go and the excitement rushed back! We got to the turnstile, and one of the ladies greeted me with, "Oh, hello Princess Belle!" haha CMs were doing that all night.

We got in and the place was super crowded, especially because we got there in the middle of the parade. So we just stood in front of the Emporium, watching and waiting for it to end. Little girls kept saying "Hi Belle" and it was killing me to not be able to say hi and interact and all I would just kinda smile/laugh and maybe wave. Lol my first stop after the parade was the castle because my friend had said she was going to be taking pictures there until 7, but that she might get pulled to Photo Supply. On my way to the castle, I ran into a some princesses that wanted to take a picture with me. I was hesitant, but one of them said "We know we're not supposed to, but it's okay" or something like that. :P

They obviously knew what they were doing, and then I was just there, looking all awkward and wonky-eyed. Haha

We kept trying to find my friend, but I finally gave up and we kept walking around. I don't even know what I was looking for or where I was trying to go. I just kept walking around everywhere. I was just happy to be there! My boyfriend, however, hates aimlessly walking around, and started getting frustrated. And he was hungry. I have another friend who works in Frontierland, and so I was trying to find him. I asked a CM if she knew him and she said yeah, that she had just seen him, and to go ask this one guy working Splash Mountain. So we went to him and he told us to go pretend to be single riders so we could go inside and ask if he was there. So we went to the exit and I made my boyfriend ask the girl working there if she knew where he was. She, too, told us to pretend to be single riders and go in. I didn't like the idea, because I felt like I was lying. Haha but we went in and talked to the CMs inside, they gave us a different guy than who we were looking for, so we went back and talked to the guy that first told us to go in, and that's how I found out I was in Critter County, not Frontierland.:lmao: I don't know Disneyland very well. :P

Then I realized that we had to get to Toon Town to meet Roger! I don't even remember what we were doing, but we ended up asking a CM what the line near us was for, and how to get to TT. Turns out we were right by the line for the princess meet and greet! It was super short, so we got in line. The two girls in front of us were Elsa and Ariel and they looked great! The Elsa girl had made both of their costumes. It was finally my turn and the first princess was Cinderella. She said I looked lovely, and asked if my boyfriend was my prince and I said yes. (I'm really shy, so I didn't talk THAT much, but it was more than usual because I was so energetic) She said, "Oh, well he's certainly not as hairy as the Beast!" and I was trying to think of a funny response, because he is pretty hairy lol and then she said, "And his temper isn't as bad as the Beast's either, is it?" to which I responded, "Yes it is" and she was all surprised. Haha so then we took our picture, and she said the pose I chose was "a very lovely pose." :P

Second was Aurora, who was actually pretty quiet. There wasn't much of a discussion between us lol

After that, we went to Toon Town. Unfortunately, Roger was finishing up right as we got there. ): So we sat and waited for Mickey and Minnie to come out. The CM told us we could start lining up, and this group of tourists ran to get in front of us, even though we were like a foot away from closing the gap between us and the people in front of us. ):<
They took forever, too. There was four of them and they rotated, each one going up to do the same pose, and they did like 3 or 4 different poses. Urgh!

Then we got up there and Mickey started "freaking out" and then Minnie joined in haha a CM was like, "Yeah, it's Belle! And she made that dress!" So they both bowed to me and then started "asking" my boyfriend why he didn't have a costume. I explained why to Mickey and then asked if Minnie made his costume and he nodded yes and then drew a heart with his fingers at her. Haha Minnie told my boyfriend that he needed a dress like hers. :P We took our picture, they gave me kisses, and then we went to see Pluto!

We got in line for Pluto (there was actually no line, since there was someone with him, and no one waiting). The CM started talking to me and asked if I made my dress and I said yes and she started asking me what else I've made and how long it took, etc. I asked her if she would take our picture, and of course she said yes. Pluto was lots of fun. He had me scratch his...uh...muzzle? Nose bridge? Haha then he danced and we took our picture, and then the CM said we should take a picture with just Pluto and myself and that I should kiss his nose. So I did. Lol

I gave Pluto one more scratch, and then we went to find the Villains. I had really been hoping that Gaston would be there, but then I found out that he only comes out at WDW. ):
The line for the villains was horrendously long, so we were gonna just do the Queen of Hearts, but she was about to go on break, so we gave up and ended up taking our picture with the Mickey pumpkin. (:

Then we went on the teacups! The line was pretty short. Some guy behind us said he liked my dress. Haha after that we made our way to Tomorrowland because we were going to eat, but first went on Star Tours! Always a good time! After the ride, we ate at Pizza Port. I couldn't even finish half of my food because I was wearing two corsets, so I put my leftovers into our leftover empty SmartWater bottle (that food was expensive, I wasn't going to let it go to waste! :P). The guy at the table next to us was giving me a weird look. After eating, we went and watched the fireworks. They were awesome! Then I went to try to take off my hoopskirt so that we could go on Space and HM - the two rides my bf really wanted to go on. I ended up taking off the hoop next to the payphones by the bathrooms in Tomorrowland. It was a little awakward lol but the dress was dragging a lot with just the petticoat, so I went and changed into the PJs I brought. Then we had to go dash to the front to rent a locker (it was already 10 something and we needed to get on those rides!). $10 for a medium sized locker that I was going to use for an hour and a half. -_- so we shoved the dress into the locker, and then dashed back in and speed walked over to HM. The standby time said 30 mins, but I'm pretty sure we got in quicker than that. The ride was great, and it was my bf's first time seeing it decked out with NMBC stuff. Once we got off, we raced over to Space. It was both of our first times experiencing Ghost Galaxy, but it really didn't seem much different than usual lol after that we started walking out of the park, and he FINALLY bought me the light up rose that I wanted (when I said I wanted it, he didn't really wanna buy it, then he tried buying it secretly, but I realized he was no longer walking behind me, so I ended up foiling his plan. /: )

Of course, it took a pretty long time to get on the tram, and we were next to these really annoying girls. Agh. Haha once we got out, we went to Taco Bell and he got a $5 box. We went home and he dropped me off, and we were both in our beds by around 2 am. Then he tells me that he just won a PS4 through the Taco Bell contest. How's that for some Disney Magic?? Hahaha, it was a pretty good way to end the night!

And that ends my way-tpoo-long trip report!

    Re: Mickey's Halloween Party, Oct 25, 2013

Wow, you look great. I think I saw you there. We were a large group of Jedi walking around. It was our first time for the Halloween party and we had a blast and so did our son. Next year though I think we'll go 2 nights. One for candy and the other just to enjoy the short lines and all the other things we might have missed and pics with characters. I was thrilled with all the people who turned out in costume. It was like Comic-Con with candy! We even had people taking pictures of us walking around and pointing "Look, Jedi" and our son, he's 5, walked around saying to people "May the Force be with you." One lady had her 2 boys dressed as clone troopers and asked if we could take a picture with them and we sort of chased one kid dressed as R2-D2 yelling "That's the droid we're looking for!" We even play acted some scenes in the line of Star Tours. I think the rule about pictures is you can't let or make people think you are a cast member but it's hard to stop people from taking pictures of you. Although I think we may have unknowingly tricked a group of international tourists as we walked in. Oh well, fun was had by all and if we made some people happy than so be it.

I think the few things that bothered me had nothing to do with Disney, it was the people who were there. Cell phone zombies and very young children who were fast asleep while their parents were pushing their stroller from station to station filling bags of candy that the child was oblivious too. Also it was sad how many people/kids didn't even say thank you much less trick or treat, they just held out their bags and went to the next. I overheard one of the older cast members commenting about how nobody says trick or treat anymore. Our son of course did at every station and they thought he was so cute they often gave him more and he of course said thank you. Then there were the few people who weren't listening to the anouncement before the party about Disneyland closing and they were arguing with the security detail at the land entrances. My husband heard one woman yelling at one of them about why they weren't allowed past. "Just because we don't have costumes isn't it!!!" The cast member saw us comming and asked for wristbands and we all raised our arms so he could see them. We walked past her while she stared at us and then she demanded wristbands from the cast member. By then we were out of earshot but WOW. Now this event is advertised way in advance and signs are everywhere. I just can't believe some people.

Anyway, we had a blast, our son had fun and got lots of candy, and most of the annoyances were minor and just food for thought. We tried to make up for those rude people by treating the cast memebers with respect and giving them a laugh when we could.

Great costume, thanks for sharing the night.

This was a great trip report. Your costume is fantastic, and you really are a beauty. Your boyfriend must have been mighty proud to be there with you!

No matter where you go, there you are.

          Re: Mickey's Halloween Party, Oct 25, 2013

@Puffin - Two nights sounds like a good idea...I didn't get to do any trick or treating at all! Granted, I am 19, but that doesn't mean I don't like trick or treating! Haha

I do remember my boyfriend saying, "Look, it's Luke Skywalker!" but I didn't really look at the group he was with...I was trying to find a CM to take our picture in front of the fountain (I think we were in Toon Town). That's pretty funny about your son! Kids are funny haha we saw one little R2 that was actually in a styrofoam (or paper mache or something) costume. It was pretty cool!

I can't believe that woman was rude! I mean, I've heard people can be awful, but I've never experienced it myself. Someone should have just called security to escort her out of there. Problem solved. Hahaha glad you all had a good time! I don't know how you couldn't, though! :P

          @chris- thank you!

@sbk - thank you, too! I think he got annoyed a bit by my wandering and having to notify me when someone was complimenting me..I was oblivious most of the time, as I was on Cloud 9. Haha

*Side Note: The dress wasn't supposed to be so low-cut..I didn't make the shoulder thingies tight enough, so they kept slipping down. Haha

            Re: Mickey's Halloween Party, Oct 25, 2013

I want to start by saying that I love your dress. You look just like Belle. You truly look fantastic and chose one of my favorite characters. You suggest that you made it yourself, so I'm doubly impressed.

However, I thought costumes like this were not permitted at the Halloween Party?

I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but Disney kind of undermines the integrity of the product they are selling when they allow people to show up dressed as one of their characters in their theme park. That's not your intention obviously and not your fault either, so I'm not accusing you of doing anything wrong. I'm just surprised that they permit adults to dress as one of the Disney characters and I'm really surprised (no shocked) they allow early entry before the party actually starts. The fact that a supervisor has to give you a special spiel tells me that Disney has a potential problem on their hands. The entire thing strikes me as odd. It's merely an observation, not me telling you shouldn't do it.

You and some of those other princesses should all go to Six Flags or Knott's dressed like that. I'd get a kick out of seeing Disney characters with great costumes like yours walking around the competitor's park.

              Re: Mickey's Halloween Party, Oct 25, 2013

              Thank you.

All Disney costumes are allowed, so long as they follow the costume guidelines...which, now that I think about it, mine kind of didn't. Haha It's not supposed to drag on the floor or be obstructive. I get what you're saying, though. There were lots of kids thinking I actually was Belle. Some were clever enough to ask their parents if I was in a costume or not, and some parents were smart enough to realize that I was. Lol I would have waited to change into my costume once the party actually started, but it was too complicated and I didn't have a companion who knew what they were doing to help me dress haha

That's actually a very funny idea, but I'm guessing other parks have rules about that stuff, too, because they wouldn't want their guests focusing on those dressed up, rather than on their own rides and attractions.
