  • Trip Report Quick TR: Soarin' Splash and RAIN!

I decided a raining evening would be a perfect time to hit some rides I hadn't been on in a while and it was fantastic! The parks were so empty, and it barely rained after 5pm! I started over in DCA with SR RSR and the ramp line for SRas barely half full! next on to Screamin 3 times (I love that ride!), then Soarin, which was just reopened yesterday after a couple of days down. First, it had a 90 minute wait posted but there was barely a line outside so I figured that must be wrong...it wasn't! They were running just one side and only filling 2 of the three sections! I waited 30 minutes after entering the FP line, and I heard SR that had waited over an hour! Madness....

I the headed across the way and hit Indy, which was virtually empty... The line didn't stop moving until the projection room, and no line outside the temple (there wasn't even a guy for FP and they had that roped off...did they not give them out yesterday?) and while the door was closed when we approached, the lights never came on as we "chose" our path. Everything else seemed to be working through the ride until we approached the loading station and came to a very sharp, sudden stop, quickly followed by all lights coming on. I was so mad we weren't still in the ride...that would have been so cool! We needed up having to get escorted off for the three steps to the platform and then all got a re admit FP.

I heard Splash was open, and I had my raincoat on so I figured why not...? It was literally a walk on and I had the log to myself! It looks great! All the AAs are working, the lights over them are all on and bright...it was fantastic!

Next I hit Matterhorn SR and was on within 5 minutes, then over to ST and then home. They cancelled both Fantasmic! Shows and I think they cancelled the fireworks too...I head people saying they were at 840 but the info board said 925. I didn't hear them on my way home, so I'm guessing they didn't. I was kind of bummed they cancelled F! because it wasn't raining and hadn't really rained much in the late afternoon, but I guess everything was still wet...?

Overall, a trip and the least crowded I've seen it in a long time, and it was a FRIDAY night!!! I love the rain!!!

Everything was working well in Splash Mountain. The lighting is improved, Brer Rabbit was riding back and forth on that little cart, mouths were actually moving on the characters and the owl was back at the end where they show your photo.

I agree...I love rainy days, but last time I went in the rain over a year ago it was SO crowded! I was quite happy to have a rainy day that was like the rainy days growing up...

I also went last night and it was surreal walking by the ROA uncongested by Fantasmic campers and a relatively empty hub in mid-evening. There were no fireworks, AFAIK.

That actually sounds so fun! Wish I lived that close. Going on Spring Break, though, and I wish it would rain during that time...but I know it's not going to and it's just going to be packed lol.

Thanks for sharing the pictures, Great Movie Rider! I wasn't there during the actual rain so I loved those shots!

Well it seems like you had a great time at Disneyland (I've been jealous looking at wait time apps from home ) but I'm confused as to what Disney did with Soarin' Over California during its one week refurb this week. From what it sounds like, it seems they made it even worse than it was to begin with from what I'm hearing. If they still need to perform maintenance on it, I'd rather it be closed so they can get the work done quickly rather than be open at say 50% (or less) and take twice as long to complete the work that needs to be done. On that note, did you happen to notice if the Planes preshow is still playing or if they've reverted back to the original preshow?
"Hello folks, welcome aboard the Disneyland Railroad..."
"The Gods have been angered by all the celebratin'..."

Planes is still there, sorry! I'm not sure what they did...I was curious which is why I went on it! I haven't been on the left side in a while but there were still flaws in the screen and film, so it wasn't either of those. What really confuses me is the section they aren't using...it's not like they are working on it since the ride is going!

Re: Quick TR: Soarin' Splash and RAIN!

^They have been having multiple operational issues. I was there Saturday morning and afternoon and I was in the indoor queue when the ride broke down. They took everyone off the ride and those who had been placed on the ride and those who would have boarded the next one got a pass for any ride of their choice. (Except RSR and World of Color).
