Re: Earthquake
Although the reports that come put right after a quake always seem to change, it was at reportedly a 5.3 at 9:09pm centered in La Habra, north of (and close to) Disneyland--about 15 minutes ago. We're just about 20 minutes north of La Habra and it felt like a big one. I was surprised to read that it was only a 5.3. It didn't feel like a rolling one to me, it felt more shaky and scary. Our house creaked. First time I've been worried by one since the Northridge quake--though I'm close to the epicenter of this one. Some local Micechatters were probably at Disneyland and might have some interesting posts tomorrow or late tonight. There was a Christian Science Monitor article about 13 hours ago asking if CA was overdue for a big one. The article was inspired by a 3 point something quake centered in LaHabra yesterday. I still have a little adrenaline rush over 20 minutes later.

Los Angeles (CNN) -- A 5.1-magnitude earthquake hit the Los Angeles area Friday night, the USGS reported.
The epicenter was in Orange County near Fullerton, but it rattled residents in nearby areas as well, including Hollywood Hills.
The shaking could be felt for about 15 seconds.
The USGS had earlier reported it as a 5.4-magnitude, but later downgraded it to 5.1.

Re: Earthquake
Sorry I'm posting so much on this. Now I feel a little wimpy: "just a 5.1"!
It would have been interesting if this had come during the day and we'd been in the Discovery Science Center's (in Santa Ana) earthquake room.
Good night. Hope this wasn't the first of a series.

Re: Earthquake
Yeah, I just watched a "strip the city" episode on LA Last night. Always a good idea to have an earthquake kit. And don't forget, the water heater has a lot of water if things bad. And if course, the toilet (the top part). I'm amazed my coworkers don't have earth quake kits. 3 days of food and water, minimum.
That being said, most stuff built after the mid 60s here has decent earthquake architecture and safety.

Re: Earthquake
Up here in LA I didn't feel it at all. This is a scary one, though. According to the Earthquake Service they're still having aftershocks. Must be horrible to be in La Habra right now...I'd be scared silly.

Re: Earthquake
In Brea and we definitely felt it. Our neighborhood is on the right of the map below so we were right on top of the epicenter. Definitely felt in Anaheim. All attractions were evacuated and are currently being inspected.
