  • [Question] Trip Planning: Dreading Closures & Grad Nites

I thought I'd be safe planning a trip in the middle of the week at the end of May. Now, it turns out that just about everything is closed AND I'll have two mid-week Grad Nites to contend with. I understand that there are two long-term refurbs going on right now, but I'll be there May 17 - May 22 and the following rides will be closed at Disneyland Park:

    • Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage
    • Alice in Wonderland
    • It's a Small World
    • Pirates of the Caribbean
    • Space Mountain

Like, that's the week before the summer season, if not the start of the summer season. How can they justify closing Space Mountain through May and June during what will undoubtedly be the busiest summer season yet?

I'm bringing three first-timers, and we'll miss basically five of the park's best. Alice and Nemo, sure. but closing Space, Small World, and Pirates at once... in late May / Grad Nites / early summer?

The only one with a small chance of opening is Pirates, which is on the refurb lists with a refurb "ending 5/22." Does that mean it'll be open on 5/22, or that that is its last day under refurbishment?
I believe I chose the life of a tomb raider, because
I'm addicted to the excitement that comes when life hangs in the balance.
    ...

The disappointment is Small World and Pirates at the same time, because that is a lot of capacity to loose at once.

Pirates is planned to reopen after that, on the 23d, sorry.

Summer Season according to Disney is starting the next week, but that's to promote the park. Summer Season crowd wise starts around mid June.

Next year I'm trying for a summer internship at Stark Industries.

My sympathies on not only having to deal with closures, but having to deal with Grad Nights. If you have any way to reschedule I would. If not, just have patience and try and do as much as you can.

        I understand your frustration.

Unfortunately, Space Mountain will be closed during our trip in early June.

Grad nites, those usually take a good chunk out of May and June. We were a little frustrated with the whole thing, but we got over it. You wont notice the youngins' until the later operating hours (5pm or 6pm). Schools usually bring them in all at once toward the night due to the fact that they can stay later than usual.

Not true. The grads now receive a full day parkhopper pass and can be found roaming around the parks all day and night. Usually they start showing up in mass around 11am to noon and it keeps getting worse throughout the day.

Re: Trip Planning: Dreading Closures & Grad Nites

Yeah, the closures are frustrating, but I'm hoping it's a big prep for the 60th next year.

Grad Nights? (Grump Alert) What a disaster. I wish they would go back to the old system of closing the parks a bit early and letting the hooligans have the place to themselves all night. The thrill of sharing the parks with roving bands of rowdy kids is underwhelming. And I hope to never see another girl with "shorts" that are smaller than her thong. You may be hot, honey, but we really don't need to see your cheeks, k? June is especially busy anyway, and to compound the crowding challenge by adding thousands of teens is a bit unfair to the families that may have spent a lot of time planning their vacation.

Oh yeah, almost forgot: on Grad Night days, get to the park early, if you drive and plan to use M&F parking. If you get there after noon or so, you'll end up being sent to Toy Story (an additional 30 minutes of driving and waiting), and waiting for the shuttle with 3000 other people. Lesson learned for me from last June.............

Personally, I would reschedule some time in late-August or early-September (after Labor Day) if possible. Avoid grad nights like the plague.
