  • Trip Report Joshrzmeup's 3 day TR!!!

I finally got to go back to Disneyland after many years of being away and a few of those years going to WDW for a change (My dad prefers it), and it felt so good!! 3 days seemed like just the right amount of time - yes, it was spring break so everyday it got more and more crowded, but hey, blue skies and sunshine all 3 days and I couldn't have asked for anything else!

After leaving Ohio on the 17th where it was 15 degrees that morning, we hit the friendly skies! First stop was Vegas for a few days, as it would be our home base in-between day trips on that vacation.

After a 4am leave time from my brother's place in Vegas, we hit the road, only stopping for the necessary Starbucks at the crack of dawn and then later on part of Route 66 for breakfast. The forecasted weather? 80 degrees. Pure Heaven.

We checked in at the Candy Cane Inn, which we loved. Nice, short walk to the front, optional free shuttle, it was great. Then, it was time to hit the parks!

Our first order of business was to hit up the newly re-opened Thunder Mountain Railroad!!! My brother's GF had never been on it, as the past 2 times they have gone, it's been closed.

I loved it! It was smoother than ever, all effects that I was aware of were working, only 25 minute wait (though the line made it seem like much longer), it was just great!!!

After that, we decided to hit up Splash, as it was getting warm and we needed a good cool-off.

After just about an hour (thanks to the many school groups who got in line) and hearing that due to circumstances, our wait may be longer than what was posted, we got on. And my poor brother got soaked and wasn't happy.

After some walking around in the warm California Sun to dry off, we decided to hit up Space Mountain. It is so much better here than at MK, it was dark - so dark I couldn't see my hand in front of me, which makes it all the more thrilling for me.

But, my dad ended up so bored with it that he fell asleep.

We then quickly park-hopped over to DCA, which has changed quite a bit since I had last seen it, but I loved the make-over.

RSR had a good 120 minute wait and we knew ahead of time that fastpasses had sold out early that morning and we didn't want to wait, so we all 3 did the single rider line, knowing that we would have to wait for one another at the end, but for 30 minute wait, we were ok with that. I gotta admit, it was a cute, fun ride! I really enjoyed it. Is it worth 120 minutes? Heck no!

My dad learned something valuable on this trip. Do NOT argue Disney with me because you will not win. It had to do with these cones and their real Route 66 counterpart. He insisted later in the trip that these were tee-pees and that they were white, just like the real ones. I brought up numerous images on my camera and on the internet to prove him wrong all the while he still argued (for over 30 minutes, I might add) that he was right because that is what he remembered.

Buena Vista Street was beautiful!!! I really like the Red Car Trolley.

After heading out of Route 66, we headed toward a ride that was a favorite of all of ours, one in which I have a love/hate relationship with. I love the thrill of the ride and the random drop sequence and the theming. I hate the way my legs turn to jelly as we stand and wait to board and how my insides churn and I feel my stomach drop as I fasten my seatbelt and they close the doors.

            Re: Joshrzmeup's 3 day TR!!!

The next day, up bright and early we decided to hit up as much as we could before it got too crowded.

We knew we wanted WOC fastpasses, so we got to DCA at Rope drop and stood in line for about 45 minutes for that, getting the Blue section. The line for RSR fastpasss stretched all the way to Aladdin's theater. I know the line moves fast, but still....wow.

Our first stop in Disneyland was the Matterhorn, as none of us had been on it since the new cars were installed.

Now, I used to love the Matterhorn, but now, it's even worse than I remembered it to be. It was horribly bumpy, jarring and gave me quite a few bruises from being thrown around.

While the rest of the family decided to go to Star Tours, as I can no longer stomach that ride since it turned 3D, I decided to wander around and take a few pictures. This area was not crowded at all, so I made a wish in the well and just walked around, taking in all the sights and sounds and wonderful smells.

Not long after, it was time for our lunch reservations. The one thing both myself and my mom insisted on was lunch at the Blue Bayou. We didn't get right on the water, but we were close enough. Pirates was down pretty much the entire time, so no boats going by But I got to eat my true love in food form, the Monte Cristo. I think I managed to eat most of it, lol.

We decided to hop on the train to let our stomachs settle and once we got off, an older lady (maybe mid 60's or so?) was scolding my brother for almost 5 minutes for having a baby on his back who was not secured in a carrier. This lady was not kidding in the least.

This is the 'Baby' she was talking about.

            If that's a baby, it's an ugly-looking one, lol.

We then decided to take the monorail around. Peeking through the tarps I saw the subs.

My dad was a little disappointed that they were closed, as well as Indy but he got over it when I told him that it's the not original subs he remembers, but Finding Nemo, instead.

Not long after, it was time to head back to the hotel to grab our hoodies for the night before standing in the crowds for WOC. Due to my dad's bad back, he opted to walk around Disneyland on his own and relax as he can't sit, stand or walk for periods of time, so the 4 of us headed out.

I loved WOC. Yes, we were kind of far back, but still. I loved the colors, the images and the soundtrack. It got cold when were were standing around/sitting and talking for the 45 minutes or so before the show.

I apologize in advance for the grainy night pictures as my camera doesn't take the best night photos.

DCA at night was beautiful! I love how everything was all lit up and how Mickey's Fun Wheel changed colors. It was a great ending to a fun day.

            Next up, day 3.

Day 3 was our relax day.
First up on my agenda was to meet Anna and Elsa and get Elsa's autograph for the 4 1/2 year old we watch, who LOVES Elsa. So, go into the park just before rope drop and stood in the mosh pit that was Main Street, trying to get as close to the front as I could, dodging strollers and the like.

Once the park was officially opened, I ran to the M&G area, and stood in line - 40 minutes at that point, which was ok since it wasn't hot or cold at that point in the morning. The line quickly formed behind us. Lots of girls in Anna dresses and hearing parents complain that they couldn't find an Elsa dress so they got Anna instead. It seemed to be a trend that minutes after they re-stocked the small Frozen section, it would sell out.

I loved the animatronic Olaf. He was a crack up!

I kind of felt bad for Anna, watching her while waiting in the room, she seemed bored. Every little girl greeted her and was fawning over Elsa. They didn't interact with me at all beyond a Hello, I tried to talk to them but I was kind of ushered through my picture and out the door.

Her outfit was really cool. Now that her show is ending, they need her back on.

While my dad and my brother went on Mickey's Fun Wheel with the moving cars, his girlfriend and I went back on CS. That was one looooooong looking line, thought the posted wait was only 30 minutes. I was shocked. It really was only 30 minutes.

Later in the day, after a quick pit stop at one of the Cozy Cones for a snack, the family headed back to the hotel to get hoodies for the night, but I elected to stay behind and have some "me" time in the parks.

I first hit up my favorite ride, Soarin Over California. I love how you really feel like you are hang gliding over California, feeling the ocean, smelling the smells, I feel like i'm there!

After that was done, I went back over to DL to get my first Mint Julep. It did NOT disappoint. I loved it! It was crowded, so it took me a long time to find a spot to sit and people-watch and relax, but I sat down on the curb on Main Street and decided to watch Mickey's Soundsational Parade. No one in my family likes to sit and watch parades, but I really wanted to take the time to do so for a change.

I've seen some unfortunate-looking parade costumes in the past, but somehow, I think these^ take the cake! Yikes!

After the family came back, we did a bit of shopping where I picked up a hoodie for myself and some pins to decorate my purse with

As the night drew near, my brother and his GF staked out our spot along the benches on Main Street for the fireworks, it was a great view. While they did that, my mom and I headed out for some food.

She got an Olaf Caramel Apple and I got a Sundae from Gibson Girl

I love the fireworks show and I didn't want it to end because that meant that my wonderful DL trip was coming to an end, and I didn't want that. Remember, Dreams Come True will always be my favorite fireworks show. I love the soundtrack too much. I don't care if it's a shortened version, it brings tears to my eyes.

After that, I wanted to prolong my leaving as much as I could, so I took a few night shots.

It was with a heavy heart that I was dragged out of the park by my family I was not ready to leave, whatsoever. I had a wonderful time.

The next morning we were planning on leaving by 11 so that we could all sleep in for a change, but since my parents and I were up early, we walked to DTD for a time, just walking around, longing to go into the park.

I always wanted to get a picture of this sign, and was happy to walk past it when coming from the hotel.

It broke my heart to leave my happy place, but at least I got to go.

If there is any interest, I was planning on a TR for the rest of the vacation, Vegas, Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon and Route 66 in the other vacation destinations forum.
