  • News Hatbox Ghost

So today, Disney unveiled the merchandise they will be selling this fall in honor of the Haunted Mansion's 45th Anniversary. In some of the merchandise, the Hatbox Ghost is part of the designs, yet again. Considering probably 99% of common Disneyland ghosts don't know about he Hatbox Ghost, do you guys (as fellow Disney fans) consider it odd to incorporate the famous ghost in the merchandise, even though he hasn't been seen by the guests eye in ages?

No, he's got a cult following who probably buy more HBG merch then most typical guests.
The Mickey audience is not made up of people; it has no racial, national, political, religious or social differences or affiliations; the Mickey audience is made up of parts of people, of that deathless, precious, ageless, absolutely primitive remnant of something in every world-wracked human being which makes us play with children’s toys and laugh without self-consciousness at silly things, and sing in bathtubs, and dream and believe that our babies are uniquely beautiful. You know…the Mickey in us.

Some fans know of the Hatbox Ghost myth, so it isn't surprising that they would incorporate him into merch.

Ooh ooh, I want to see two things come out of this; more Dooney & Bourke HM bags for sale and the REAL HBG in the HM. Remember they had that HBG at D23. You don't think……….

No, he's more of a whimsical "grim grinning ghost" type of character who looks like he belongs there. If they show a pirate and say "Pirates of the Caribbean" I doubt anyone would be confused if it wasn't an exact replica of one of the actual pirate figures.

Sometimes I think they'll never add the HBG, because it creates a sense of anticipation that he might come back...someday.

              I don't want him back...
It'll kill the fun of starting the biannual thread debating whether he's going to be installed or not

*seriously, it'd be nice for him to come back, only if they did it right*

Actually, he's not a myth. He was actually on the ride for a short period of time in 1969.

I know, I was just thinking that there are very few people that have seen him.

I'm almost certain that a lot more people saw the Hatbox Ghost Animatronic at D23 than the actual HBG at the Haunted Mansion in 1969. I'm not sure how long the actual HBG was in the mansion but over three days at D23, the Animatronic got lots of attention.

Not to take a thread off topic, but did anyone else find it interesting that the HM entrance plaques were shining gold/bronze on opening day? look at 4:44 in the video and you can clearly see the bright and shining plaque. Interesting.
