  • Space Mountain - Open Today - Is It True?

A friend of mine went yesterday to the opening of Buzz. He asked one of the cast members about Space Mountain. They said it was opening today.
I was shocked when I heard this. Are they having preview runs? Anyone have any news to contradict or prove this?

Space Mountain was announced to be open in July. I seriously doubt it being open to the public this soon.

They may be doing limited test runs, but I don't think they'd be open to the public.

From what Al has said I don't think we'll see early previews like we have with Buzz, ToT, Mission:Space, and Soarin'. Mainly it seems that they are hurrying around the clock to get it open in July, so I'd say we'll see soft openings around late June.

Splash opened today with only minor problems/downtimes. The seating config. is now similar to Rocket Rods, with 2 in the last row and one in rows 1, 2 and 3.

you mean 2 in row 6 and 1 in rows 1 through 5. The logs now seat 7.

I don't think the number of seats really matters. Who is to say the average group has an even number of guests? The reason for 5 seats was that they took pre-existing logs, and once they added the dividers, that was the max. number of seats they could create. Now, apparently 6 is the maximum number of rows they could put in the logs, and they just added the extra seat to the 6th row. I'm sure it's an issue of weight that sets the cap at 7 adults.

It's possible they may have been cycling ride vehicles but I doubt Space Mountain will be open to the public before summer.

yea I seriously doubt it will open before July 15th. Their going to be working on this ride up untill the very last day so I would imagine their wont be any soft openings.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. I remember Buzz Lightyear was supposed to open on March 17th but was open to the public almost 3 weeks prior. Tower Of Terror was supposed to open on May 5th but was operating daily by April 29th. Winnie The Pooh was supposed to open on April 11th but was operating as of March 27th. I think there will be a soft opening for Space Mountain but when it will happen is anyone's guess.

I'm sure there will be a soft opening, just probably not a substantial one. I would be surprised if it opened before July 4th. They would probably want to wait for those very heavy crowds to move out before testing the ride on guests.

                                        Heard it was open

I was on Story Book and cast member operating the ride said Space mountain is finished and that she had seen it. She also said that in 2010 frontierland will be getting an expansion with new rides.
