Space Mountain: Updates and Possible Earlier Opening?

My husband and I will be taking a much needed vacation in May (May 23-28). Originally I was told by our travel agent, Space Mountain was not going to open until November. However, I keep reading on different posts Space Mountain could open some time in July. Does anyone know if Space Moutain could have a soft opening of the attraction at the end of May? My husband loved Space Mountain as a kid and it would be a huge disappointment if we left our trip without going on the ride.

It's POSSIBLE although I am inclined to say it won't open until later in the summer, toward late June/early July, so I wouldn't bet on it. Keep in mind that they are working really hard just to move the opening up from November to July, so this will likely be down to the wire. Don't give up hope but also don't plan on it being open, I suppose. It'll be fun, anyway, as the Happiest Homecoming on Earth will have begun

A soft opening in May is highly unlikely... I'd assume (if they even do soft openings) theyll be LATE LATE June and/or early July

a softopening in late june is likely... This is a ride that is new in track and vehicles and will need a lot of testing to get the CMS traines and Guests Pher Hour set to the estimates times to keep the flow working...

Dr. Johnson and I wonder why there has been little word on the progress of Space Mountain since February. Before we suffer another accident in this vaudeville spaceport, will somebody clue us in on that metal circus under the white steel tent?

There is probably VERY limited access to the building now if they are running and testing trains. Fewer people who can peek in and get a look as to what is going on.

As mentioned in other threads, I want a "soft opening" the week of June 6. When you are at the park, how do you find out about soft openings? Do you ask at guest relations, or do you just kind of hang out near the ride? I am new to the "soft opening" world.

I read on another board that Space Mountain is starting to hire in Cast Members - and it usually takes 3 months for a new attraction to come up from the point of hiring. So it looks like early July would be the Soft Opening.

Yea Im betting on first week of July for soft openings. They still have all the new effects and stuff to install and test and then their may be some painting and last minute stuff they have to check.

There were some cast member buzzings earlier this year that testing would begin approximately 2 months before opening. They said it was necessary because of the scope of the redoing of the ride. This will not only help perfect the ride system, but also allow for the adjustment of the special effects.
Can someone confirm?

I can't confirm, but that would make perfect sense. I wouldn't be surprised if soft-openings/tech rehearsals began in mid-May...

im goning Monday July 11th to try to get on space mountain and beat the fourth of july crowds and the 50th ann. crowds july 15th and 17th. i hope there is some type of soft openning.
