  • It's an iPod world after all

If Steve Jobs ran Disney and could add things to DL, what would you guess he might do?

Give us your funniest iRIDE ideas..

I'd do "ii" a new Apple designed AI character in pirates (pronounced aye aye). This very realistic Pirate has artificial intelligence and in grand Apple tradition points his sword at you and "freezes" your boat to a standstill as it goes by. A massive spinning beachball hovers over you indefinately politely telling you to remain frozen...forever. The guest "crew members" must give their launch a hard restart...you make up the rest..oh.. the whole ride is white.

Oh brother. Obviously a Mac hater. In all the time I've been running OSX, on several different computers, I've had a crash maybe 3 times where I had to do a hard restart. If you're getting more than that, well... two words: User error

And I'd let Steve's Industrial Design tem loose on Tomorrowland in a heartbeat. At least it would look more modern and streamlined than it does now.
Honor those who fall under the sword.
But pity the warrior who has slain all his enemies.

*drools* Apple's product design team in Tomorrowland....now that would be awesome.

By the by, since I've switched over to OSX, I've never had to do a hard restart. I've only had a couple programs quit on me, but nothing more.

Even if the boats did freeze during the ride, at least there'd be boats in the ride. If Microsoft ran Pirates, everyone would be stuck at load-in wondering if their boat should go down A, B or C chute while the cast members tried to figure out how much water to designate to each one. All this while guests freely walk in and out of several unseen backdoors, stealing AAs and trashing the place.

I'll take Apple's Design Team any day.

LMFAO. Like I'd sit there and make that Steve Jobs Avitar if I hated Macs! I have 5.. I LOVE mine and OSX is usually great. You gotta have a sense of humor about computers, because no matter what you have they can be frustrating as they have trained us all to be content with software products that are released imperfect only to be patched after the sale. The spinning beachball is the bane of every loyal mac addict (like me).

As dumb as i may be, it isn't all "user error" either, why do you think they have constant patches and software updates? (I wonder if we would get better products if they thought of us as "guests" instead of "users"?). Just check out this site before you update. I love my Mac.

The point is that Apple isn't perfect and it's fun to not take things so seriously. My G5 has frozen many times, but i wouldn't trade it for the world. OS9 was the freeze issue and OSx for the most part solved that by quitting programs instead of the OS.

The goal of the thread is to think about what Steve would do different. the Tomorrowland idea is a good start. Would he put a Bono statue in the hub?

Can you imagine what he'd do with Innoventions??? OMG. What a "wow" that would be!!! "Apple presents Innoventions", the line would be out of Tomrrowland.

I agree- the point if the iWish (I believe anyways) is that Steve Jobs has produced sooo many innovateive products and revamped apple's image into what it is today (I say while jamming on my photo iPod People now associate apple with innovation, style and forward thinking- something that Disney has been sorely lacking until very recently. CM Matt was just the start of the effect fresh and new thinking can have on a company. I am sure Steve Jbs would at the very least rehab the Monorail and make it slick and cool looking- the subs would be a go and who knows what they would do and I bet the live bands at tomorrowland terrace would be much cooler

                    It is, by definition, even.

But hmm, what would Apple do if they took over Disneyland... I suspect the worst. They'd take out all the theme clutter and replace it by monochromatic, intuitive, user-friendly areas in which you could easily reach everything without having to go back to the hub every time. And it would be wonderfully quiet, haha.

But what's even better is to imagine Microsoftland. Talking paperclips would walk around giving you tips about things you already know, and you couldn't get rid of them. The information booth would have a doggie who'd fetch you all the wrong things and would fail to answer any of your questions. Hygiene would be horrible, and you could catch a nasty virus from as much as touching the railing. The power would go off just when you're in the middle of a ride, and once it would be back on you'd have to start all over. And let's not even think about what their vision of Tomorrowland would be.
Come to think of it... Push the Talking Trash Can would fit in Microsoft's vision of the future perfectly. And after 1000 repetitive "helpful" questions, you'd want to actually trash it. And, in a desperate move, switch to Appleland, haha.

Ugh.. OS9... Extension conflicts... Font errors... Let's not mention this again.

I think tomorrowland would be his first focus. And you'd better believe it would get a fresh look every 3 years or so! Even if they took their current look of brushed aluminum and white acrylic and covered all of tomorrowland with it, it would be sweet. And innoventions... Don't even get me drooling over how awesome that would be! Of course, if we told anyone about it when we left, they'd have to sue us..

The big downside to this would be the further Pixarification of the park... Unless he opens a third gate, and sweeps all the pixar properties there, leaving the other parks to focus on new ideas... What a concept!

Makes me wonder, though. What would you call the new apple/disney designers, Imappleers?

I was goint to back you by saying it's ok to make fun of a computer system, but it looks like you did it for me.

No doubt about it, Apple and Pixar are shining examples of what strong teams of talented people can accomplish. Walt Disney built the Walt Disney company around this same core idea. He hired execellent people and then created superior products utilizing these teams.

Steve Job's strong commitment to hiring and retaining talent would make excellent CEO for Disney.

                          Here's some ride ideas:

                          1. Retheme the haunted mansion to look like Steve abandoned Mansion in Palo Alto.

                          2. Require all of the CM's to wear black turtile necks and jeans.

                          3. Change Pirates of the Carrabean to iPirates. In this version, the Pirates plunder ideas from the Xerox corporation.

First off, I have to say that I'm loving the idea of a Bono statue. But that's just me! However, I'm thinking an AI Animatronic of Bono dressed as a pirate outside of Pirates would be even better!

Second, I would LOVE it if someone like Steve Jobs got together with Matt Ouimet to work on DL. I think Matt is doing a great job and if he and Jobs got together, imagine the fun stuff they could do... (Especially with Jobs' money!)

I think Apple sponsoring Innoventions would be a great idea... at least it would be worth going in there....

Instead of every ride containing a "Hidden Mickey" (see hiddenmickeys.org), every ride would contain a "Hidden Apple." Whether it's someone eating an Apple, the wicked witch on Snow White holding an apple with a bite out of it, or a shadow or painting...it would be there.

If Steve Jobs ran Disneyland, it would have every ride Universal has except cost $40 more to get in the gate.

For guests who can't tell a superior product when it's right in front of them and continuously complain that the competitor is so much better, Jobs would design and release special glasses called, "Universal Emulators." They would add an overlay onto everything in the park, making it look much cheaper and not as well crafted. Cast members would be instructed to, immediately upon encountering "Emulator" guests, cease assisting them in order to make their experience much less efficient, more difficult and much more annoying, in order to better emulate the workings of their preferred park.

apples are ok... but why in gods name did they ever design that freakin' hockey puck mouse??? My hand can never quite fit right over it and it gives my hand cramps after about 15 mins. There is a ride idea in there somewhere but its too painful to think about.
