POTC: The Rumored Changes

Yes yes, I know there have been tons of rumors about adding in a Jack Sparrow AA in the ride, but Jim Hill has just posted an article on the possibility of POTC having a night time version of the ride based off of the movie. You see, the ride would be the same old POTC during the day, but by night the boats would go a different route than usual and go past scenes with Skeleton pirates sacking the town. What do you think about it? I think its a fantastic idea! It would make a whole new experience for riders and will attract locals.

I think it's possible but it would require way too much money to be economical. With the kind of money they would need to reconfigure New Orleans Square they could build a whole new attraction at the ranch or sub lagoon.

But I'm not entirely against them reconfiguring the original version of pirates to add a Jack AA.

Fantastic indeed - the thought of them buliding a whole new flume to redirect the boats into an entirely new series of scenes!

Nice idea, awesome concept, but a little too fantastic for reality on the ground. It's a fun rumour, but strictly rumour-material .... and so we'll ruminate on this and other wild possibilites for pirates here in the Disney Gossip forum - - where Disneyland rumours belong for our speculative enjoyment (according to my source).

Actually, part of the genius of this idea is that Burbank doesn't have to pay to build another show building, and management doesn't have to figure out how to hide it, since it's all right there.

I don't like the horror concept of the alternate path and would probably only ride it in the original method, but I do have to admit it's a nice idea since DL is so incredibly short on space. It would also give Anaheim something the other parks don't have again.

And we are as traditional Diz as you get..but this...just too cool to contemplate.

I don't get the whole day/night thing concept of it. Are kids not at Disneyland at night? :confused:

I think it's a cool idea. I'm just not sure I'd want it to be going while on a family vacation.....I hate having to split up the family during rides. If it wasn't too scary, though, my kids would love it, as they loved the PotC movie.

But we're talking about expanding into a storage/maintenance area that wouldn't have been built there if it wasn't necessary for the operation of the attraction. The storage area itself isn't really that big either - maybe a little smaller than the cave transition between the two buildings. Not a whole lot of room to do anything and still allow for emergency access and what not. That whole storage area would have to be reconfigured. If there wasn't enough room for the access ways and what nots, they'd have to expand the building outwards, which would certainly be possible - just expensive.

Well it certainly wouldn't be scarier than the movie...that wouldn't be Disney...but any ride is only as scary as what you bring in with you anyway.

As to kids at night...that HUGE exodus at dark usually empties a ton of 'em out...and folks with out kids also deserve a little 'taste' now and then as well.

Day/Night changeovers sound great to me (please...can't I be selfesh and think of what I'd like?

And if kids go in thinking it's like one big movie set...they'll like it to...well...most of 'em.

Great point. Usually kids who will pee their pants with terror of things like that will probably be asleep by the time it opens. I'm sure the movie was scary to very little kids like ages 3-6 and they'll be asleep by then. If kids could handle the movie, they can handle this.

Personaly I love the idea, (however unlikely)
I would love it if they gave the option of boarding two types of boats ( one original version one updated version to be diverted to the new sets) and had it opened all day (then even in the evening those who prefer the original can still enjoy it yet those who want new can also enjoy it thoughout the day)

by the way as far as kids on the ride...i am a mother of two the youngest is 5 and POTC is one of his favorite movies. I think he would really get a kick out of the redo.

just a little forwarning and a choice of rides and this could be a huge success.

It fits well into the motto of things that kids and their parents can do together. This is simply for parents with older kids, as long as they don't make it too scary. The company offers various offering for kids of all ages. Not everything is as dark as pirates, and not everything is Playhouse Disney style toddler entertainment either.

And as long as they don't go overboard on the thrills, it doesn't fall into the trap of Alien Encounter, where it's too much for some kids (or parents!) entirely, no matter the age.

Don't get me wrong.....my kids would still go on it and love it.....my youngest is four and lives for CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow and doesn't blink at scary stuff (my kids were weaned on Star Wars).

I'd just hate to get on it with families with young kids and have to listen to crying the entire time. And I hate it when families have to split up to go on rides. I think of PotC as a family ride....because it's our family's favorite.

If they did this you'd have to add Pirates to the list of family attractions that closed in the evening hours. That lists includes:

Mickey's House
Minnie's House
Donald's Boat
Cartoon Spin
Omnibus, Fire Engine and the rest
Snow White and Peter Pan (for two hours)
The Mark Twain, The Columbia
The Rafts and All of Tom Sawyer Island
The Canoes

And then of course - Pirates.

The alternate/night version of Pirates would probably be as scary as Indiana Jones Adventure. A little scary, but still fun for little kids. And I never see kids coming off that ride upset or crying because it was too scary- they always have fun.
I think that Disney has learned from Alien Encounter at WDW and wont be doing anything too scary anymore.

Anyways, you know Disney will put all kinds of signs out for the night time version warning that its scary...

I don't know how they'd do it, and I don't think it'll happen in the near future, but I'd sure love to see it happen! That would be a pretty sweet addition to the park and, as someone said above, something that's not a clone of another ride!

The boats will switch to a different flume once they leave the fort bombardment and move into what is currently back stage area where they can construct show scenes for it.

I think that it would be awesome but it is really difficult for me to want to mess with a classic such as POTC .... I think it would be fun for certain people but I always find the cornyness part of the attraction of the ride ...

Well, think of it this way. In the movie, the pirates were normal by day, but skeletons by night. See what I mean?
