Did they finally take them out? I searched but didn't find anything.

That sucks. Were the plans to take them out legit?

In a ways, I would like to see them gone, but in some ways, I kind of like them, but they should remove the more prominant ones, as a way to rebuild the Tomorrowland entrance.

The only way they can go is if the Astro Orbiter goes too. The Buzz and Star Tours buildings used to frame the Rocket Jets. Now the rocks serve that purpose and removing them while leaving the Astro Orbiter would destroy the visual that has been created.

So anyways they haven't taken the rocks out yet, though they probably will, and the Astro Orbitor probably wont' get moved to the top of the Peoplemover platform. And the PeopleMover isn't coming back anytiime soon either. It's just not a priority at Disney right now. They don't want it back. The Skyway was obliterated so it could never be brought back. They don't want the liability of these things any more.

Because too many people are sue-happy these days.

There have been rumors/reports that PeopleMover is currently being developed for 2009-2010.

So far off! I wish they could just clean up the tracks and make new cars, but sadly we all know it's not that easy. And it would be awesome if the Astro Orbiter went back onto the tower. Why was it taken off anyways? Right now I just see it as a Dumbo clone.

Why can't it still be like that!

If Disney was worried about the "liability" of these rides, than it would only make sense to also remove the Matterhorn, The Monorail, Big Thunder, The Rivers of America, and the Columbia, as they have all been the source of fatalities as well.

Another question. When Disney painted Space Mountain that ugly brownish/goldish color was it to match the grounded Astro Orbiter and the Rocket Rods?

It wasn't so specific. Everything changed to essentially make Tomorrowland much more like Discoveryland at Disneyland Paris. The entire design, from using a replica of Le Orbitron, to the rocks, and even the colors all come from Discoveryland.

Well in about a year or so, it will be fairly close to that. Sans Rocket Jets. So at least there is hope..

I still don't understand the purpose of the rocks. What exactly do they do for the theme?

I really hope the peoplemover will make a return. I never got a chance to ride them but I did ride the TTA at the MK and I liked that. If they don't bring them back then they should take them out because it is just a painful remainder of TL 98.
