  • Circle Vision

Throughout the last couple of years, we had heard that Circle Vision would be returing in Al's articles. It made sense to me because Tomorrowland needed attractions and after all, the screens of that popular attraction were still in place. So why did it never return, for at least a brief while?

  • #2
I think it never returned because they decided to spend more money to build Buzz. Returning Circlevision was just a cheap way to reopen the building before a new attraction could go in there, but since there's a new attraction going in there anyway, there's no reason to bring it back.

CircleVision required a lot of space and went from groundbreaking to kitschy as technology caught up and suprassed it.

Unless they came up with some sort of IMAX CircleVision deal for another one of the parks that has the space to support a monster sized theater, I wouldn't expect to see it back. And even an attraction like that would have a shelf life of about 5 years.

from what I understand WDW tried to update there's to the Timekeeper (or should I say they built an upgraded circlvision in Paris? and WDW upgraded to their attraction) and it don't last long? I don't know much about the Timekeeper except that it was a circlevision movie and it used Animatronics and such

youknow now that they're taking out both editions of it, I wonder what they'll do with the AA's

Very true; especially the 'kitschy' part. But, being the nostalgic fool that I am, I still wish it would have come back.

            circlevision problem

The biggest problem for Circlevision was that peoples attention spans are so short. there is no that they will stand in a room together without causing a problem or noises during a show. It was gettin so annoying for the CM to always be tellin ppl not to sit on the rails or not smoke or whatever that it was ....like why bother trying??? ..I was hoping they could put in a circle vision "history of Disneyland " or something for the 50th yr, but they have these next generation interactive rides that seems to be popular with the adreniline junkies just off the 5 freeway and the nintendo generation..... weee hooo.lols any more Pixar in tomm land and ill puke .

sadly, Circlevisions death was in the standing part in my opinion. I think people have gotten lazy or are tired so refuse to stand for the show. I did hear a rumor of keeping this type of 360 tech going by installing totally rotatable chairs so that at any given moment you can hit your joystick and follow the action while sitting.

              We shall see.....

The Circle Vision movies always made me a little queasy... its weird.. I can ride Space Mountain or Tower of Terror till the cows come home, but stick me in a theater that doesn't actually move and I'm running for the nearest restroom!

people slam on the joystick and spin around and kick each other?

                  I dunno sounds kinda dumb

and yes I can't say that I blame everyone for not wanting to stand, after a long day in the park Tomorrowland is ussualy the last place I get to so by then I am growing tired of standing in long lines

and now I have to stand in a ride? (attraction I know :P)

Circlevisions death was that it lost it's origionality after a while

it made a nice que though assuming you can keep it moving and the video stays fresh (seriously I was in that room for so long waiting for Rocket Rods that I got a headache and couldn't get that Rocket Rods talk outta my poor poor brain o_o)

                    TDA "Forgot" about Circlevision!

I was having lunch with a Very High Level TDA exec in late 2002 and brought up Circle Vision. At this point Disney had hopped on the Post 9-11 Patriotic kick and everything was Mickey with an American Flag. I asked him, "Why didnt you guys reopen circlevision for a special run to honor america? With all of the patriotism after 9-11, it could have been a special return of America the Beautiful and helped DL by adding an attraction in Tomorrowland and looking good PR wise as Disney salutes the USA. The Projectors and Screens were still in place . All that would be needed was to bring the film back from WDI and put the railings back in!"

                    His answer...

"What a Great Idea! I wish we would have thought of that a few months ago. Too bad we didnt have this conversation then..."

It could have happened! Yet another missed opportunity for all of us!

They could have brought back 'America the Beautiful', that would have been a nice treat. It's a little outdated, but they could have done it. To hear that a Disney exec didn't think about it or that no one thought about it, reaffirms my feeling that Eisner and those who surround him are as out of touch with the way the world is as ever. There are several suits in the Disney Company that need to come down from their ivory towers and high horses to see what their guests actually think before they start guessing.

Too bad they couldn't use the Opera House to house an America the Beautiful type show, just scaled down a bit. Use plasma TVs or a forward technology of the plasma screen.

And Rainfully, I have the same problem with IMAX films. Especially ones that involve water.
Anything listed on the park maps as an attraction is fair game for inclusion in the Rally.
I cannot confirm nor deny the inclusion of any attraction in the Rally.

they could scale it down and still use projectors

Plasma screens are a horrible horrible very temporary fix on flatscreen technology (images have high burn rates five years down the line the bright colors are gone and those things will look faded as they're based off a chemical type reaction)

all in all though Movie stuff gets old fast

Circlevision is still used alot in Epcot though right?

Isn't that what Buzz will do? Use your Joystick to spin you "Ship" around to fire at targets all around you.

isn't WDW's Magic Kingom Circlevision going to close and be replaced by a Flying Saucers ride?

so that'll leave two Circlevisions still open at Epcot (since DLP's Circlevision will become Buzz just like Tokyo's and DL's)
