  • Walls going up around Submarine Voyage and Motorboat Cruiser

There is a strong rumor by Al Lutz that by next week the entire area around motorboat cruiser and Submarine Voyage will be covered by walls for installation of something new incase you didn't read the update today.
Also we can focus on the sole topic of the walls and new attractions.
This is no April fools joke.

I am very curious about the motorboat cruise.....

Maybe this could be the "new" ride speculated to be announced on the 5th since we already know about the suns and SSL.

That would be a perfect area for another ride.

    Phantom boats, perhaps?????

I really hope that the motorboat cruiser makes some kind of comeback. This area is also another prime piece of land that is not taken advantage of. I say that the phantom boats would be interesting. I just wish they would put a atlantis theme for the subs. I mean it is the perfect fit for tomorrowland and is a very exciting theme.

People have been asking for a "Little Mermaid" ride in Fantasyland, maybe the old Motorboat area could be that. Using the IASW/POTC boat system to churn alot of guest through the attraction.

How much land do they have for the motorboat cruiser? Does the land go back farther then when they had the previous boat attraction there? Do they have enough room to build a big attraction there?

so thats one idea for the area. what about a omnimover style system. small 2 person rowboats... (kiss the girl comes to mind) by small i mean very small and also the old pooh greeting area is perfect for the line for this ride because it wont intrude into the walkways and stuff. what about mini subs? like autopia style!

              Aerial View

Looking at this shot they should have more than enough room to put in an attraction. The Motor Boats left from the docks under the Monorail Track that is just above the Matterhorn in this photo. They made they way through the water to where the Sub Lagoon and Motorboat Lagoon meet and back to the Docks.

There is enough room on the sides to install some show scenes as they did with the Gummi Bears Layover.

Funny - when we were at DL 2 weeks ago, my wife and I were looking at that vast unused area while getting in line for Small World. It looks so sad and wasted. Hard to believe it's been closed so long. How many young kids could have sat there proudly next to their dad and "drove" the boat.

Hope they do something GREAT with it. My only fear is that they rush a bunch of new attractions in to keep momentum and we get a bunch of "B" quality rides. But maybe the new management will blow us away.

In this age of technology, the Disney people should be able to AMAZE us, which is what DL should be about.

I remember "driving the boats' in the motorboat cruise, I loved it!! It was a favorite of mine and my brothers' when we were younger. I'm excited to see something put in that area.

Motorboat Cruise is one I do not remember. Was it autopia in boats?

Yeah, it was pretty much the same style as Autopia. But i dont think that they would put walls up in this area during the 50th anniversary becuse they want everthing to look nice and new, they dont want to make it look like constructionland again.

Maybe they are doing some cleanup?

as I've said in anther thread, rumors have said that this might become a childrens playground (if this is true then they'll probably be cloning whatever's going in at WDW's old Lagoon site)

                            OR

someone at WDI loved my idea about taking the Matterhorn, Nemo Subs, Autopia and adding Aquatopia to the Moter Boat cruise and calling the whole thing either Discoverland or Explorationland

I believe this is possible. The cannals the old moterboats traveled along are disgusting and stagnent and at least need to be drained.
*I don't know about an updated ride in the same cannals
*I don't know if it is somehow related to the Sub refurb
*I don't know if this will affect Autopia, but I assume it must, maybe two of the tracks will be closed town.
*This may both be part of the "Cars" overlay being discussed for Autopia and the Nemo submarines. Cannablizing the motorboats to redevelop that back area and create two stronger rides seems very plausible having spent a lot of time walking this beat as a CM.

Here's the area in question. The white building top center is Small World. The Matterhorn and Sub Lagoon are bottom center. Looks to me like a lot of space, if they get creative.

Those with good memories... how long was the MotorBoat Cruise?

I am with dsnylndmom on this one, the motorboats rocked the house! what they should do is expand the lagoon with some tributaries or something and just make a giant motorboat cruise area. this would be popular, high capacity, low maintanence, and fun for everyone! The only stipulation I would enact would be that there would be no lilo and stitch affiliations in the ride.

I for one STILL do not know where the Motorboat Cruise was, is..or anything. The ariel view (being freaking cool to look at notwithstanding) shows me nothing that I understand.....I don't think I ever rode them either.

Yes, in this case I need someone to draw me a picture.

I don't know if I can draw you a picture, but it is an area in DL, next to the old FL Autopia and next to IASW cheque... It is undernieth a lot of folage... and there are food tables on the docking pier now... It is in front of the Materhorn cheque... and is underneith monorail track...

I always looked at that spot and said... "you know, they are going to use that space soon..." I just didn't know how soon, because there are other areas that need just as much attention like the Big Thunder Mountain Trail between Fantasyland and Frontierland...
