  • Parade of Dreams Audio Testing

The other night after I got off shift, I took "the long way" back to the shuttle because they were doing audio testing for the Parade of Dreams on Main Street!! I only heard a bit of the parade itself, and a good 30 seconds of the "Welcome to our Family" show stop music, and I can report that it sounds AMAZING! Lots of "pixie dust chimes" and creative foley have been interweaved with the vocals to make for a score that is pure magic! I can't for this thing to debut!!!

You know, I really like that song, "Welcome to our Family." I am worried that it is going to get tired fast...

I got tired of the Mickey Mouse Cavalcade music the third time I heard it... After the fifth time it was like nails on a chalkboard and started complaining to management... after the seventh time I started running toward higher ground before I went into diabetic seizures...

Parades are work... They are a lot of work... And the standards are growing larger ever year... They should have some decent music to go with it... They should pipe it in to the TDA offices... We will know if it starts not working very quickly if they did that...

The thing about the Electrical Parade is I never got tired of the music...

I very much agree. You want to talk about nails to a chalkboard, how about Parade of the Stars? After seeing that the 170th time, I couldn't even listen to the music on the cd. I had heard and seen that parade so many times, that I could barely even stand to watch from a distance. This whole music-for-each-float will be a nice change. I can't stand(after being scared by the Parade of the Stars) when they play the same thing over and over for 20 minutes.

As I think of it, I was at the parks on Friday and drving into the Mickey and Friends parking structure, I saw that Lion King float from Parade of the Stars(gold giraffes). It was out when I got there around 12:00 in the afternoon and still was out when I left at about 11:00 at night. I wanted to drive my car right through the fence and trample it. Not to mention, I was pretty sure I saw a Parade of Dreams float as well. It was out when I got there, but was put away when I left.

Aaaah, the precious Parade of Dreams ....

So does it sound like the version of "Welcome" that was sung at the 2005 Rose Parade opening?? That was really beautiful. Anyone catch this on film?

I was napping on a dray in the Main Street RR station. I awoke to the music of the parade of stars, and have loved it since. I don't listen to it twice a day, but a leasr twice a week. It is really a good score. I went to the music shop after the parade and purchased the parade CD.

I did catch it on film. In my opinion the POD (Parade of Dreams) version is better. There's less emphasis on vocals and more on background foley (drums, violin, etc) and stardust chimes. I think it sounds fantastic! I got the distinct impresstion that I could listen to it for hours without becoming annoyed -- a deffinite good sign!

I was referring to the Rose Parade version as a comparison. Sorry, I don't have the PoD score...yet.

Well, first off, I want everyone to know that I really do respect all the work that goes into a parade... I work with people who create parades... and it is not easy, I even helped with directing some of them... Getting 100 or so people to function as one cohearent unit is NOT easy... And DL does a great job getting performers to move and work together...

It is when you start smashing your CD player with a large mallat when it starts comming on... then you know you have had enough...

But you are right, that is exactly what I don't like about MM Cavalcade... when they hit the high note on "Mouse." It is an unnatural stress on the name "Mickey Mouse..." The major stress is on "key" not "Mouse." And it makes the brain think the note should be flat... So you hear a dissonant crunchy cord... Don't they know anything about music theory?

Ouch... It twitches a nerve in my neck just thinking about it... I don't want to cringe when I hear the Mickey Mouse name darn it... It's a bad song...

Yeah, that is what I was hoping for... that the vocals carry the melody... That way you can very the score while keeping to the basic themes of the tune...

It makes it more "Lion King" like... have the ablity to single out elements in the music...

The trouble is that they have to basically keep everything in a single key unless they do a stationary transition to "crank up the score"

From what I heard they could have done something like that, easily...

                    --------

I think one day they should go wild and have a Mickey Mouse Mojo Parade and break out the Quincy Jones/Austin Powers sound track and have Mickey lead the dance down Main Street in his purple suit...

I would pay money to see that... That would be funny... And maybe a little too Post Modern for Disney...

I would seriously love to see that!!!

As for the parade of the stars, I can't believe I memorized the whole horrific loop just by seeing it in the park (and I only saw it like 5 times... and i never heard the one on the cd)
                            I have a dream
                            A song to sing
                            To help me cope
                            Trough everything

                            If you see the wonder
                            of a FairyTale
                            You can take the future
                            even if you fail...

                            I believe in Angels
Something good in everything I see
                            I believe in Angels
When I know the time is right for me...

I'll cross the stream.... I have a dream

I agree with Druggas- I actually liked the music from Parade of the Stars. I thought it was a nice combination of great songs, and I liked how there were little pieces of songs here and there. However, listening to that loop over and over again got a little boring. It will be especially cool to have music that ties into the floats we are seeing.

Well, light travels from the sun. Then, bounces off of our planet, and back into our eyes so we can perceive color. My body can intercept that light and dance around on it!

I think the music is going to ROCK! My friend in the parade says it's very energetic. To me, Parade of the Stars had good arrangements of different songs, but just wasn't energetic enough.

it really is going to rock. There are so many show stops during this parade, I'm sure that we'll all get out "Welcome to our family" fix

As with most music from the 80s (which was when this song was created for "One Man's Dream") Nobody knew much about music theory.

Unlike most 80s music tho I really like the One Man's Dream Mickey Mouse song
