  • Colombia Refurbishment

Noticed in this picture update that the Colombia has been dry docked and is being worked on: http://darkbeer.smugmug.com/gallery/1421698/12/67550237

This was most unexpected and could be for the Black Pearl overlay. Anyone have some official news about this?

Note, I split yesterday's album, so the link might not work, but you can find the album on my main page, it is the Park Update one.

And Fantasmic! is scheduled for Friday, so I presume this is some minor work....

I think the Columbia is just going through some regular sprucing up. Its in dry dock at least a couple of times a year.

Have no fear, I don't think they're going to put a skeleton crew and tattered sails on the Columbia! Well, maybe for the movie premiere, but not pemanently.

Borneio and I were on the Mark Twain on Sunday in the Pilot's house and the CM that was with us said(yes I know) that they are just doing some touch up to the ship.

Yeah you would think they are going to take advantage of that now.

Didn't the Columbia go under a big refurb recently? Right before the 50th? I seem to recall it being out of commission for a while.....

I'll say. That ship is hardly ever available for passengers. Never on weekdays. Never in the rain. Not a couple hours before Fantasmic...or from then on....

I feel blessed for the two times I rode on New Years Day, amazing that it was even available in between rain showers.

I figure I may never ride it again, and it's a lot more than the Mark Twain, there's little alcoves down beneath, and the firing of the canons etc...

But good luck getting on. Doesn't seem to sail very often. I may never be able to ride it again.

I've never, ever, ever gotten to ride it. Which is extremely frustrating. The last time I tried, it was tied up at the Mark Twain dock, they deboarded the passengers, then said it was down, went back to their mooring, and it never moved again.

They probably are also taking the 50 off I would imagine...

I doubt they would do that before the 50th celebration is over in October.

Exactly. Getting to ride Columbia was the biggest achievement of my whole visit. I cannot tell you how much more powerful that ship is, than Mark Twain. Mark Twain is nothing compared to when you are up top the Columbia, right near the front masts, and you can see the whole park as you round the bend.

Or slinking down into the alcoves........and then when the fire the cannons.....(bring earplugs for that, if you get up real close, otherwise stand to the back of the ship opposite where the Captain fires---they give you warning and tell you a bit before they fire, and to move away if you are sensitive to loud noises).

I truly hope you get to ride it someday. The Columbia just doesn't sail regularly. I don't know when their regular sailing hours are.

I guess they think the Mark Twain is enough, and they don't have to bother sailing the Columbia.

But, I can tell you getting to go round on the Columbia.....I got to go round twice!.....was a one-of-a-kind experience.

                              Shame it's not available more.
