  • RockIT Mountain!

I was at Disneyland today with my girlfriend and she noticed that if you look closely at the new Space Mountain sign, in back of the word "Space" you can see it also says "Rockit". Yea that's right it's spelled like that, it's not a typo. . So I'm guessing this will light up at a certain time of night. I wonder what time of night it will start...

WOW are you kidding?????? That would be awesome if that is true!!! That is interesting because why would they go to the trouble of making Space light up unless they are planning to do this way later in the afternoon?

Yes the ride changes from Space Mountain during the day to Rockit Mountain at night.

I had heard that there are alternate soundtracks for day and night- perhaps this confirms it?

Well, I don't think it is going to start right at night falll. Why would the "Space" part light up if it wasn't going to be on at night. Kind of a waste. I think it will be at a certain time of night. Maybe.

They are going to add a loop and a corkscrew at night lol.
It also might seem like it is going faster at night due to the rock music and the effects.

Besides a different sound track, suppose to have different effects for nightime as well is what I've heard.

For those who don't know about roller coasters, the ones outside, they run faster at night, especially during the hot summer, because the tracks expand during the heat of the day and then shrink or compress in the cooler air of the night, hence the cars run faster at night. Give it try on Big Thunder on a hot day. Ride it during the heat of the day and then go back several hours after the sun has gone down and you will notice it runs faster. So, to keep with tradition, even though Space Moutain has always been designed so that it can be run slightly faster at night. So now I guess they are going to play on that with the Rockit Mountain. Kind of neat.

Lost Boy's theory might be true because I get a faster sensation on Big Thunder at night but I doubt that aplies to Rockit/Space mtn. Since the ride is indoors all the time I dont see how it can gain speed. It should be the same any time you ride it.

Not true, the effect does happen but not as dramatically as BTMRR. The track and wheels still heat up from all the friction all day.

Yep I have noticed that on BTM. Also on Screamin', which is also nice with the cold wind blowing in your hair. Man I can't wait for SM to open, ya'll gotta save me a spot in line on the 15th.

But wouldn't the friction continue at the same pace so the track wouldn't heat up but keep at a constant temp?

No because in the morning the track and wheels are cold. As the day progresses and the more the trains go through the ride the track and wheels get heated up.
