  • Why did the Keelboats die?

I know that the Keelboats have been gone for a while now but does anyone know why they were taken out? They were lots of fun to ride and the great thing was that they were not on a track so it was an actual boat. Anyone?

The Keel boats keeled over a bit too many times a few years ago...

      From Yesterland.com:

In 1994, at the end of the summer, the Mike Fink Keel Boats closed for the season. All through 1995, the Keel Boats never reopened. Had they closed forever? No! The Keel Boats reappeared on the Rivers of America at the end of March 1996.
      Then came... The Accident.

I never got around to going on that ride. Interesting to know why it closed!

How ironic. I was just on the Mark Twain (again) this morning, and as I passed the Gullywhumper, I thought "I wonder whatever happened to the Keelboats?"

            Now I know.

They were still active at WDW in 2000 and I think 2001. They were gone by 2002.

I only remember going on the ride once. They told jokes like on JC. It was fun.

I wish I had done it more often....

They closed, Mrs. Harris made some promises to reopen them. They came back as props.

                  Yep.

Re: Why did the Keelboats die?

The Keel(over)boats were part of the interesting and rich River traffic that helped tell the story of the expanding American Frontier. They were also one of the visible attractions that tricked guests into being both actors and participants in grand story which Walt was telling. I hope they re-engineer them for safety and they return to the Rivers of America.

No, props are not a reopened attraction.
