  • Walt's dream is being destroyed by...teenagers.

In case you weren't aware of this; part of the reason why Walt built Disneyland was so that parents and their children could enjoy the park together. To this day one of the #1 things they drill into the skulls of Cast Members is their responsibility to help make Magical Memories (tm) for families; some of which save money for years just to make a once in a lifetime trip to the park.

Well thanks to the actions of one subset of the population, Walt's dream is being destroyed and any efforts of CMs to help enforce his dream are being voided. Whether it's a failure of 21st Century parenting, the public school system, or a combination of both; the roving bands of idiot teenagers who infest the park unsupervised are starting to turn the Happiest Place on Earth into a Nightmare on Earth.

A family that saves money for years just to take a once in a lifetime family vacation to Disneyland has their impression of this peice of Americana shattered due to a group of roudy teenage boys who decide to shout vulgar profanity at one of the princesses.

An example from tonight is even more frightening.

9:00pm showing of Fantasmic! A group of about 4-6 teenagers decide to sit down in the center area at the banks of the Rivers of America about three "rows" back. They are obviously Cast Members on their day off due to their knowledge of the Fantasmic! tower setup, tower designations, and organization. This group decides that they would ruin the performance for everyone in the area by screaming at the top of their lungs whenever a new character appears. I'm not talking cheers. But screams. The awesome finale everyone loves? Well no one in the area could hear the soundtrack as the girls in the group all screamed as loud as they could to drown out the audio - even those sitting right next to the speaker couldn't hear anything but screams.

If a group of young CAST MEMBERS decide to ruin a performance of Fantasmic! for guests in the park, what can you expect from regular kids out of school?

What about the idiots who try to scam their way into the park by holding up an entire line of people at the gate thanks to them trying to get in with used passes and no handstamp?

What about the line jumpers who threaten physical harm to anyone who tries to say anything about them cutting in line? Sometimes even brandishing a knife.

What about the groups of kids who try to capsize any boat in one of the water rides?

The idiots who stand up on Big Thunder or another coaster to act cool but end up causing the ride to shut down for over an hour for them to cycle it and make sure everything is OK?

    No.

The only solution to this growing problem is to ban unsupervised teenagers from the park until they hit Grad Night. Once someone turns 13 or gets to Highschool they cannot purchase a ticket or enter the park without a parent or guardian.

I'm sure there will people who post stuff like "But what about the good teenagers!" Well, just like one idiot can get an entire school banned from Grad Night for peeing in a fountain, the same should apply here.

Sure, there are good well behaved teenagers who go to the park, but the bad ones are the ones that are noticed and create a bad experience for regular park guests.

i myself am a teenager! but that i think shouldn't happen let kids over 13 in only if they have a guardian are you nuts, any ways if it was castmembers trying to ruin the show another Cm should of come up and tell them to shut up they should be fired . but i cant belief you'd actually make a rule like that yes i know they are extremly annoying but it just means CM have to be more aware and tell them TO shut it

I understand... I'm a CM and trust me, if we could we would beat those kids with their 4 hour early fastpasses....It's not that easy though, we're not allowed to throw someone out of the park for cursing loudly, cutting in line, being rowdy, etc..and you would be suprised how weak the power of Security really is at Disneyland when it comes to these small issues which occur on a daily basis for all of us....It's one of those things you have to adapt to, and to those who are having that extra bad day and THAN have to deal with the addition of rude guests (teens) etc....we have those great CM's..and even the not so great CM's will accomodate you, if you're having a horrible day, supprised to know theres special seating set aside for those for the parades, fantasmic, fireworks...if someone is being rude on a ride, you can ride it again w/ no line..if you couldnt enjoy your Dole Whip or Lunch because of some rude kids by you..than if you ask, you will most likely get a free lunch or a No Strings Attached card to get one somewhere else .It's sad how bad some kids are in the park but Disneyland cant not allow someone in the park (unless they have a bomb or a gun or you know...bad stuff) and to kick them out is close to impossible (no more disney jail..damn) but yea...Glad if I could of helped ya

You cant ban teens from DL. Its impossible. What you CAN do is give CM's more power in kicking roudy teens out! With todays PC culture, you simply cant do anything now a days without being under threat of lawsuit. Well guess what? They are on private property and can be asked to leave whenever!

I for one have not experanced any of the above other then being in a POTC boat full of teends that screamed the entire ride. Then again, on Matterhorn, and again on Splash! This is the MOST annoying thing ever. Even on HM!!!! Most of the time me yelling "shut up" works and put them in there place, but sometimes it dont.

One time a group of teens threw gum into my wifes hair! We were in Mickey and Friends heading for our car. 2 of us, 4 of them and they looked like they wanted a fight. Considering that #1, I have not been in a fist fight in more then 10 years, and I doubt my wife could help much, I felt it was best to walk away, but still left a bad memory.

Not all teens are roudy and want too cause trouble, but roudy teens are like a plague. They infect other teens near by and it spreads. Only way to stop it is to cut it off at its source and have some CM's escort them out, but even THAT will be almost impossible, again due to the stupid "PC" age we live in.

There is no easy solution I am afraid.

Re: Walt's dream is being destroyed by...teenagers.

            Holy Generalizations Batman!

While I totally disagree with the idea of outright banning teenagers, we have to realize that they are not destroying the park anymore than (here come the generalizations), AP-toating-locals, 1-day guests that demand everything because they are 1-day guests, and groups of MiceChatters that take up too many tables at the Plaza Inn, and invade the carrosell.

Disneyland is enjoyed by many, and the reputation that it has is great (someone in the 10+ green star range, ). You want negative reputation, then look at Six Flags (would have been Litter Boxed years ago). It's not a problem until it becomes one, and isolated insidents don't refect the park as a whole.

Also, teenage guests mean cash flow. No need to remove 99% of the profit for the 1% acting up. Times have changed, and so have expectations, and nothing is the same anymore, not even Disneyland.

True ....like today, I had all these kids come up the exit of my attraction and say the guy down at the entrance said it was ok and he took their fast passes....(due to the hundreds of prior rude teens which I know are lying) I knew they we're lying...I just said "No he didnt so you need to go back through the entrance" They said "OH OKAY SURE MAN" and continued to leave, than bounced in line...I than go over there and demand them to leave the line, one of them asked to see my lead....and my lead was even more rude than me, saying "Uh ya guys get off my ride and come back through the entrance"...It works and to any CM's listening, stop being so PC...you wont get fired, trust me..you're just doing your job..if I was calm and respectable about the situation I would of let them cut and say I could do nothing about it...

I think we need to take into consideration that these teenagers were possibly the kids of those families who saved all year for those trips to Disneyland. Who knows. But it's things like this, and saying that Grad Nites are out of control, where one bad apple spoiles the bunch.

But it's not just teenagers. Tonight, during the fireworks, everyone was nicely sitting in our section except for one family, which was proudly standing. People kept yelling "sit down," but those pleas were ignored. A disgruntled woman got security and they came over to the standers and had to talk to them for a good 5 minutes before any action happened. The standers kept ignoring the security guard, it was terrible how rude they were. Finally they left, and our section cheered as they left.

I say, give CM's more power to deal with the problems that they see infront of them.

Thats true how one idiot guest can ruin it for a whole group such as a school...but than the question of (does this person know if this is morally right or wrong, we're they told by their parents as a child this was acceptable? Do they have a mental disablity? Is this a Norm in their society?) And Trust me, Disney wont investigate them on this...they will warn them, talk to their supervisor or guardian and if there isnt one there or even in the park than they will let them go with a warning and tell them that their watching them....

And nowhere in this post did it say to just ban teens from the park alltogether....

My sister who just came back from Grad Nite said it sucked.

They closed off ALL of Fantasyland so they couldn't even ride the darn Matterhorn!

Teens will be teens. They need to enforce more stricter laws.

Yep I really do hate my generation. I heard a unbelievble remark last year that a teen said.It made me so angry that I was near the point of picking a fight with him.I can't even say it on here its so bad.But yea some teens are bad but I don't think Disneyland should ban them.

I'm a teenager and trust me, I despise my age group - I seriosly look at some people and wonder how they will get themselves into the Darwin Awards, or in some cases how they have got this far into their lives without getting themselves into serious troubble.

That being said, there are some exceptions, but they are far and few between.

My stratergy is to keep my head down and cross off the days untill they grow up and I'm at Disneyland. (And in the meantime watch Frasier!)

Well, I'm almost out of my teenage years... only a few weeks to go.

And I entirely agree. If they're screaming to ruin a ride or show, they need to be talked to, maybe warned once, and then, they need to be escorted out of the park. That's really the only solution.
