  • Oswald Makes His Move!

My source within Disney claims that in each of the Main Street Cinemas, Oswald the Rabbit vintage cartoons will soon replace Mickey's. The rationale? Few people alive today have ever seen an Oswald cartoon, and the Suits in Burbank are desparate to raise awareness.

Reportedly, Pixar is exploring giving Oswald a digitized, 21st Century makeover...

I don't know about replace, but I'd certainly love to see him JOIN Mickey

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

They tried with Pooh. and failed. They can try with Oswald. but Mickey will win. He is The Champ! And the suits in Burbank will find that out the hard way.

Hmm... I think it's a decent idea to put Oswald there (the style actually matches
and it shows the evolution), but it'll be sad not to be able to see Steamboat Willie there.

But I've only seen stills and synopsis from the Oswald cartoons so I'm going out
on bit of a limb in saying this. :-)

Couldn't they run cartoons of both? They have mulitple screens in there.

That's what I am saying. There is no reason on God's Green Earth to take out Mickey to put in Oswald. And to be truthful here, I have seen some of the Oswald Cartoons. Not very good. Mickey was done with more care and it shows.

Huh? I just can't get excited about this beta version of Mickey. Why does anyone care about this? We have Mickey. Why do we need a Simpson's parody character? Sounds to much like Waldo anyway. Good luck getting mainstream American excited about this.

But if Pixar gets involved just maybe...

I too would love to see the Main Street Cinema play both. There are something like six screens. Heck, what about differt screens dedicated to different characters? Have a screen showing Alice Comedies, one with Oswald, maybe two or three with Mickey Mouse, Silly Symphonies on another. I know some of the older cartoons may not fit entirely with the Victorian theme, but I think it would easily fall under suspension of belief.

That's a great idea, if we could get Leonard Maltin to sit down while they are all playing.

Seriously, that would be a fantastic idea. Create a longish loop of each theme for each screen. Maybe caption the movies as I remember the cinema is silent, isn't it.

And for the $uit$, $ell the DVD'$ at the entrance/exit, or next door.

Interesting idea. Not sure if it will be a success. Not many people in the general public even know MSC show B&W Mickey cartoons.

MICKEY: Join me! And together, we shall rule the Disney Empire! We have the technology to clone you as t-shirts, dvds, plush dolls... With our millions of dollars, we can recreate you for the 21st century!
OSWALD: I'll never join you! You took me away from my UNIVERSAL brothers!
MICKEY: No, I AM your brother!
                            OSWALD: NNNNNOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! That's impossible!!

                            I know, lame.

Seriously, I think it's great Oswald is back with Disney. But Disney trying to make Oswald mainstream? I don't know.

Well, kinda silent, they have the loop of old silent film era piano music playing.
You can actually hear some of the sounds from Steamboat Willie as well. The
                              others are silent.

Actually, I want Disney to provide directional IR or RF headphones so that
you can choose which ones to hear.
