  • What is a "gay" '90s classic song?

Ok, I had to laugh. My daughter was reading the Disney Insider last night and asked about the following - from the article:

Disneyland park doesn't feel complete without the melodic strains of a gay '90s classic song in four-part harmony, crooned by gents in candy-striped suits and jaunty boaters.

So, my daughter knows what "gay" means and asked if the quartet was gay - not that there's anything wrong with it. Just found it humorous but I'm still curious as to what a gay 90s song is.

Haha that is funny! Hmmm a gay 90s song might be "If Madonnna Calls... (tell her I'm not here)" from Junior Vasquez?

Dapper Purple and Dapper Turquoise could croon Britney Spears and I'd be mesmerized They are adorable

LOL... I guess that's true, now that we're in the next century, a "gay 90's" song COULD be mistaken for the 1990s, LOL.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

Shouldn't it have been written as "Gay 90's"? Instead of gay 90's? I'm not sure.

For some strange reason, Boy George or George Michael come to mind. "Don't let the sun go down on me..."

It's either "Vogue" by Madonna or "Coney Island Baby."

            Pick your century.

That's what I thought so I copied and pasted directly from the article - so I wouldn't have to decide on my own.

If you really want to know the real answer, you can read it here:

                  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gay_Nineties

So that would be the 1890s. Examples of Gay/gay '90s songs would be:

                  "After The Ball Is Over"
                  "The Bowery"
"Won't You Come Home Bill Bailey"
                  "Bird In A Gilded Cage"
...all of which could be heard in the Gay '90s act of extinct attraction America Sings.

Obviously "gay" had a different popular connotation back then.

And, the correct style would be Gay '90s. Not Gay 90's.

"Vogue", "I'm Too Sexy", and "What is Love, Baby Don't Hurt Me" come to mind.

If its 1890's then "In The Good Old Summertime", anything by John Philip Sousa like "Stars and Stripes Forever", "Old Grey Mare", and 'Bicycle Built for Two"
                      Growing older is manditory
                      Growing up is however, optional

                        Gay '90's = the 1890's
                        Roaring '20's = the 1920's
                        Swinging 60's = the 1960's
The Me Decade = the 1970's
The Al Franken Decade = the 1980's
The Joe Franken Decade = the 1990's

gay '90's? Just go back to any of the songs sung
by the quartette in America Sings! In fact one of
the sets was for the gay 90's!

I just recently got a dvd from a fan site, but I'm
pretty sure you can get a cd at the Music Store
                          on Main Street.

Be fun to see some of the gay 1990's crowd sing
some of the tunes from the gay 1890's.

Nononono... The 1990s was the Disney Decade. Eisner said so!
