  • Wanna be in parade!

Hi.....thanks for your help, if you can. My husband and I are taking our daughter to Disneyland for her 4th birthday tomorrow. I've often noticed that families end up riding in a car during the afternoon parades. How does this happen? How does one get chosen for such an honor? I know it would make my daughter's lifetime list of best days if we could do this. Anyone?

    Thanks,
    Chatchkala

          Re: Wanna be in parade!

MickeyJedi on this board had a review of being the Parade Grand Marshall. She stated that she was picked at Main Street and asked to be in the parade. Her daughter was wearing a birthday sticker, although it's not clear that was the reason. You may want to ask a cast member when you get to the main square where the flag is - they might know who to ask!

I wish I could find the review for you, but a search didn't reveal it. I'll edit this posting if I can find it for you.

I know for sure that they don't pick people just because they have a birthday sticker. Sometimes our Grand Marshals have been celebrating anniversaries or anything else, but we've also had a lot of generic out-of-state families too.

However, I've heard that sometimes they pick a group who's watching the Rededication Ceremony in the morning, but who knows...

When I was four one of the cast members asked my mom if I wanted to be in the parade with Tigger. I got to dance through the whole parade with Tigger. In my case I just happened to be cute. Good luck getting your daughter in the parade

                Re: Wanna be in parade!

Yes, I was a Grand Marshal!

We were coming out of the Opera House on Main Street at 9:30am on a Sunday morning this past May.

I did have my mouse ears and birthday sticker on (see my avatar), but the CM did not say that was the reason she picked us (although she did notice it). She said some days it's a celebrity, some days it's part of a "make-a-wish" package, but most days it's purely random - they like to have groups with kids, since it is a fun experience for them.

I bet that the "rededication ceremony" theory goes along with the timing. The CM picks the family around that time each morning, so they have the time to make up the sign for the truck.

the thread I started with my review is titled "Did anyone see 5/7/06 Parade of Dreams at 3:15pm?" (not sure how to make a link here) When you're in that truck, you notice how many people are videotaping the parade - I was hoping to find a Mice Chatter who happened to tape it!

Hope you had a great time and that your daughter's day was magical!

Being in a Disney parade is fun. My DH and I got picked on Memorial Day 2005 to be a part of Mickey's Jammin' Jungle Parade in the Animal Kingdom. I wrote a report about it somewhere....

                  Good luck!

I knew Mickey's Jedi would come through! Here's her report, including how they picked her:

We were in the parade of stars last year. It was a WORKOUT trying
to do all that dancing with the characters.

Yeah, I was exhausted after doing the Parade of the Stars a couple of years ago.

I saw a manager one time walking past the Opera House. We had a quick chat, and she mentioned that she was hunting out Grand Marshalls. Town Square mid-morning seems like the place to be.

                          There's already a parade, it's called the 5 freeway.

                            Wow...that sounds tiring.

I got to ride a float with canopy. All we had to do was smile and wave.
