  • Waves

I'm new, so I apologize if this question has already been answered. When California Adventures first opened, there were waves in the lake. From what I read, it was a rather elaborate system. The last few times I was at the park (about a year ago), the waves were gone. What happened?

they aren't gone per se. They work when they want to, and I have definitely seen them working in recent history, you just have to catch them on a good day.

It brings a lot of atmosphere to the park - especially the launch area of California Screaming. Its a shame they don't use it more consistently. Also, have they gotten rid of the "temporary stage yet? I hate what that does to the look of the park.

Yes, the stage has been taken down.

Its something that is used mostly during summer now for some unknown reson and even the they dont turn them on. the wave machine it self can kick out very big waves but because of the coaster and sun wheel they keep them fairly small. They where put in to look like the wave was pushing the coaster at the take off point like you were riding it but they never got the timming together and forgot it all together.

It was working every Sunday I went for about three or four weeks this past March. It stopped working when they removed the LuminAria barge and it hasn't been back since. Doesn't a operator turn it on or have control over it and not the ride system?

Wasn't aware the waves were missing. I was only there during previews/private parties and haven't been in DCA since opening day. They were a great effect while you were waiting for the send off!

I have been there since LuminAria ended and definitely seen the waves working, so they have not been broken since then.

Its great waiting for launch and you get soaked by a wave...ahhh...nowhere to go, stuck to your seat, great on sunny days (different story for cloudy/rainy days...). Yes, I love the waves and watching them crash on the breakers next to the track. I've seen them working occasionally but I wish they'd go more often. I wonder if they could control the shape enough to get surfers out there, that's be really cool and California-y too.

They would be surfing right into that "jetty." Ouch....

Ah yes... splashed by the blue toilet bowl water! Refreshing!
