  • Parade of Dreams out on Main Street!!! (04/22/05)

The Parade of Dreams made an extended appearance on Main Street today, while they filmed a commercial. Of course I didn't have my camera. I am sure someone got some photos of it... maybe they'll post them here for all to see.

Anyway, the portions we saw looked quite dazzling, even though all the bells and whistles weren't in effect.

Tell us more. What was the size and scale of the floats? Any interesting details?

The entire parade was not out, but most of it was sitting out there with the cameras on cranes and lights and the whole works.

The floats were quite large, massive really, more on the scale of the old Lion King Parade. In fact the Lion King float looks an awful lot like I remember from the old lion king parade, although my coworkers tell me it's not the same. The second lion king float is this large tree with some rope climbers and acrobats that swing around. I am sure it will be neat when they have it working, but the tree itself seemed a little too busy. Of course the rhinos were a big hit, and the Simba puppet was awfully attractive (or is that an AA?).

Of course the Train float was up front and it was larger than it looked back stage when you put it next to the scale of Main Street. Interestingly enough the floral parts of the float looked really really nice, I'd swear they were real (even though I know they aren't). Tink was sitting on the front of the train waiving her flag - me and the Missus decided that her costume was not only ugly, but was also unflattering and kinda cheap looking. It reminded me of that Jessica Rabbit costume they sold for a while - with the flesh colored sleeves. Maybe it's temporary.

Also, the mad tea party had some nice touches with the trampoline/table and the deck of cards. There were also these independently moving ride-vehical sized tea cups zooming about. They had an odd metal bar in the middle of them that was perplexing us, as we weren't sure what they were used for. I especially liked the the giant spoons and giant sugar cubes... very cute.

There was a large (and I do mean large) Pinochio float with marionettes (acrobats on bungees - super cool) but I couldn't really get a good look at it because security and operations kept shooing people away.

That's about all I can recall as I was being trampled by some Disneyanna people who were apparently more desperate to see the floats than I was.

My little brother was there today. I wonder if he saw any of this.
Anything listed on the park maps as an attraction is fair game for inclusion in the Rally.
I cannot confirm nor deny the inclusion of any attraction in the Rally.

I just got home from the park and evidently I arrived just as they were finishing filming as they were rolling the floats down Main Street. The floats are all very impressive looking in person, unfortunately I don't have any pics as my camera battery died. The pics look good though.

Man, I was there and saw them bringing the floats out and line them up to start shooting for the commercial, but then it began raining pretty hard. They had to cover a lot of stuff on the floats and looked like they were packing up all the cameras and lights. I had to leave to go to dinner, and of course, the sun came out as it had cleared up. They must have did some filming after that and brought a lot of the characters out. Oh well.. Guess I have to wait a bit longer to see it! Did they have any music going while they filmed??

Yeah, they did. I was shooting photos in front of the castle and you could see and hear the parade. They only played one snippet of the whole thing, and they played it while they shot each float's footage. Guess they thought it would help each CM's performance.

What they didn't show, however, was several elements from the Little Mermaid float that they had backstage. I spotted puppets for Flotsam and Jetsam, and huge hand-fan looking things that had fish drawings on them. A little cheesy, but amazing.

On the other hand, I had to answer a million questions about the little "Film Set". But no worries, I love getting people pumped for the 50th.

Well most of the people in my dept. knew it was going to happen at some point, but we were sketchy about the date. Nothing like a good secret I suppose
