  • Disneyland Update - week of April 25

Do you have Disneyland news that you would like to update us on? Photos? This is the place to post them.

Below are 7 photos that I took on Sunday. Some good, some bad, and one ugly.

The Sub Lagoon - is being drained and cleaned. you can see the caves are open and the kelp has been removed:

For years there have been folks who insisted that the Matterhorn would collapse if the Sub Lagoon were drained. Well, it's drained. I don't see it falling. . . . UNLESS it is getting some help
(see below for the real description):

(The photo above is actually of two towers that will hold a curtain for the May 4th event. However, don't they look like they are holding up the Matterhorn from this angle? They aren't, of course, but I couldn't resist )

Storybook Land getting some "Tiny" improvments:

A Pooh photo sign hanging from the trees in front of the ride. Looks much better in person:

Then new projection lights in front of the castle. There are two on each side of the moat. They look like R2D2. They really should have been hidden better:

Disneyland must have hired a new manager of the sign shop. Signs are showing up everywhere. Some of them make sense (Like the one for Storybook Land pictured above. However, this one hanging from the Tea Cups makes no sense to me. Why is it needed? It is just an ugly sign hanging over the ride:

Those were my comments. Do you have some of your own?

Thanks for the pictures. (Which one was the ugly one?) We'll be going down to the park May 17th. I'll take a camera.

Thanks for the pics Dusty! I heard you guys had a great time yesterday! I glad you mentioned that the castle lights look like R2-D2. I was sure I was the only person that thought that.

The sign doesn't bother me above the teacups, although I haven't seen it in person.

I am dissapointed by the collages that are hung too high to look at. They are cool- I LOVE the buzz one, but I think displaying them that way kind of defeats the purpose of soliciting pictures from people if they won't be able to find them. At least the majority of them are posted at ground level.

Thanks for keeping us up to date.

I'm not crazy about the projection lights for the Castle (they should be hidden better with plants or rocks like the other lights). But I find the sign hanging over the Tea Cups to be an unnecessary and ugly addition.

It was so cool to see the Sub Lagoon finally getting the love it needs!

I agree Dusty! What is the deal with that sign? Very clever angle on the picture of the Matterhorn too I must say. I don't think it will fall. I sure hope not! I think it's just one of those rumors like Tink was modeled after Marilyn Monroe which isn't true since Peter Pan came to the public first.

Anyway, thank you so much for the pictures! I love to see them on here. It makes me feel as if I was there. I wish I had some to share but all I have is of my Disney Store since it's going to be remodeled.

P.S. R2-D2 is my favorite part about Star Wars.

Great photos... (the picture thigns might be high to hide the fact they didn't get many photos??)

The signs are good.. the un-birthday one might be a little too much...

The Pooh picture is my favorite so far. I love how it looks like it belongs there. It does not disrupt the show.

I have a TON of pictures from yesterday that I need to upload and post.
Anything listed on the park maps as an attraction is fair game for inclusion in the Rally.
I cannot confirm nor deny the inclusion of any attraction in the Rally.

Dusty, the Matterhorn picture turned out way funnier than I thought... DQ, the "unbirthday" sign actually looks much better in the picture. Unfortunately, in person it looks like the cheap tacked-together sign that it is.

I seem to recall that in the original request for photos that was sent out, the park indicated that the photos wouldn't be "retouched". I've seen other mosaics produced where computers selected images based on their tonal and color qualities and then placed them appropriately. I'm guessing that those requirements for the Disney mosaics proved too difficult, so what they ended up doing was simply lay color over the lined up photos. Its not as impressive as the much more difficult method, but considering the size of the task and the difficulty they had getting enough photos, its still a nice touch.

So.. is the "unbirthday" sign supposed to alert guests to the golden tea cup that will be installed? The Dormouse appears to be in a golden tea pot (at least, it appears that way on my computer).

                  Regardless, it looks pretty tacky.

Maybe I'm stateing the obvious here, but isn't the "unbirthday" sign a pun about DL's 50th birthday? I will reserve my judgment about whether the sign is tacky until I see it in person but I personally think the idea is cute.

Hmm, you're probably right with that one. Hehe.

Yeah, it doesn't look so bad in the picture, but like many have said, I'll wait to judge until I see it first-hand.

Thank you so much for the pics.

Im not a big fan of the Pooh ride but that pic and the tea cups just really got me.
(I guess its becasue on those 2 you can see the crowds)
I cant wait to get there. Im feeling so excited about it already just from the pics and I still have over a month to wait!

                          Thanks again!

I'm not trying to be nit-picky or anything. But I thought (and I could be wrong, of course) that the event where they were doing that on the 5th at 10:30?

                            Funny picture though!

                              Cool pics, DS...

Anybody know what the deal is with the scaffolding towers being gone already? Maybe they just set 'em up for a dry run and will re-set them on 5/3...

ORDDU: Thank you so much for your nice pictures, Dusty Sage, duckling. Of course, NONE of them are NEARLY so appealing as the self portrait of yourself. Every time I see that face, it gives me a chill up and down my spine.

ORGOCH: Yeah? Well just think how much ol' Dusty's shiverin' in HIS boots--readin' smutty talk like YERS! (Run, Dusty, RUN!!)

Thanks Dusty for the awesome pics. For those of us that can't get out there for all the anniversary hoopla, it's nice to be able to see it thru your eyes. I can't wait to get back out to Southern California.
As nice as the other parks are, we must always remember that it all began at Disneyland. Disneyland should be the crown jewel in the Disney crown.
