  • Climbing the Matterhorn (An upcharge attraction?)

I was thinking of all these theme parks having upcharge attractions, such as Vertigo and others. Then an idea hit me. Why couldn't Disney charge people to climb the Matterhorn? I know they are always thinking of safety and different issues. But why couldn't they do it? They could have professonal staff escorting people as they climbed up and down. And the view would be spectacular!

What do you all think? Would you pay to do something like this?

I don't know how well that would work. Wouldn't there have to be some sort of safety equipment at the top, like a platform where people control all the ropes and stuff? Thereby ruining the illusion that it's a real mountain.

I think its too dangerous, what if they fell onto the track, they would get run over and killed. It's a little too risky and Disney doesnt need any more accidents. It already has enough as it is.

Since so much show goes on with the Matterhorn (tinks launching point- fireworks going off- characters who already climb the Matterhorn) its probably not a good idea- now to offer some kinds of attraction like this at DCA would be pretty cool- to build a rock gym type area and let people climb.

I hate the attractions that yuo have to pay extra for after you already paid to get i the park. I really would lose respect for Disney if it did this. I already did lose respect with the carnival games at DCA, which, in my opinion, is the biggest downfall of that park. (other than that, i like DCA)

if disney did offer a "climb the matterhorn" experience it would certainly be for certified climbers ONLY (in much the same way that the diving adventure experiences are handled at Epcot's living seas).

Oh I agree! And it is wasted space too. Especially when there are NO CAST MEMBERS there to run anything or the burrito stand over there. I wanted to try it so bad but it was NEVER open in January.

The games are never open anyway. Remember, Disneyland had games like that when they had the State Fair thing going on. It was in the mid to late 80's.
