Do the portraits in the attic scene of the haunted mansion rely on the same effect as the hallway portraits?

While we're on the subject...I've always assumed the portraits work on a scrim type effect, is this the general idea?

I dont think the portraits in the attic use projection from the front because when I was trying to figure out how it was done, I got a good look into a hole over a picture with light coming out of it. All the light was for was simply to light up the picture and not to project anything onto it. I very highly doubt that it is done from the back. Maybe it is some kind of video screen but it would have to be something really clear. HDTV portrait?

      Re: HM Effects

I was on the ride when they had to restart the show effects in the attic and the picture is black before any of the lights turn on which would lead me to believe it's a scrim lighting type effect.

Well I noticed in the attic you can tell the the light shifts from shining on the portrait to almost shining behind it. This is why I thought it was a scrim effect.

Is it confirmed that the hallway uses rear projection? Because at that Oakland Disneyland exhibit it didn't look like it was.

I believe the hallway portraits are video screens now. They were put in...last year? With the floating Leota or before? Before, I think.

I'm talking to myself on a message board!

We're going to be there during the makeover this year. Any idea on whether they'll have to take down the new effects for it or will they just try to rework it into the layover?

If memory serves me correctly, everything was taken down in the attic last year for the overlay. I very highly doubt that they will have a singing bride that decapitates her husbands with an axe and a huge glow in the dark snake that eats gifts and a Chritmas list to the tune of Nightmare B4 Christmas in the same room. Sorry, but I dont think it will be there.

(Note to self: Must verify that Nightmare Before Christmas does not have singing, deranged, axe-wielding bride in it)

Thanks for the clarification and good laugh!!!
