  • Jasmine's Too Emotional...

I saw the 1:50 showing of Aladdin today at the Hyperion Theatre and the performer playing Jasmine really irritates me, cuz she's so darn emotional throughout the whole show...especially when she's singing her solo, it's horrible!!

She always sounds like she's going to break down into an emotional outburst at any moment, whether she's singing or just saying her lines. I don't ever remember the character Jasmine (in the movie) ever being that way. Infact, if I recall, she was strong and in-control most of the time.

The guy playing Aladdin looked like he was 10, but then again, I'm very partial to my friend, Eddie, who plays that character...he's by far the best! And as for Jafar, the guy playing him was way too queeny for that role. Luckily, the Genie was really good!

I hadn't seen the Aladdin show in quite a while, and after seeing today's performance, I now remember why it's been so long. The show is stale and old, it needs to go away! It's time to put a brand new show in there. A show with a lot less dialouge and a lot more dancing & singing. Something that's more Hollywood themed, with elaborate costume changes, energetic music, and more pizzazz!!

So I was wondering, what do other MiceChatters feel about this show and the condition of it? If anything, at least get rid of that emotional Jasmine...I swear, I just want to b**ch slap that girl and tell her to lighten up!

And that ends my venting for the day!

Most of the Aladdins and Jasmines aren't good!

There is one we call the sufficating jasmine because whenever she sings or talks loudly she brethes so loudly you can here it over the speakers!

We've seen it about 4 or 5 times now and we weren't distracted by an "over emotional" Jasmine. My kids LOVED the show each time, and have most of the Genie jokes memorized now.

I think it's a good show, but is all highly dependant on the actors. Especially Genie...I feel like the whole show pivots on his performance. If his role isn't really fulfilled, you can't feel the energy anywhere else. Just MHO.

When we went and saw the show, our Jasmine was a really, REALLY bad singer. The Jr Miss and I were giggling amongst ourselves every time she sang.

I hate when you go to these things and you get some overacting amateur-hour hack.

Fortunutly...at least for me...that's a fairly rare occurrence. I think most of those kinds of "actors" either get told to "knock it down a notch or two"...or get "the hook."

For me Aladdin isn't a repeatable show. It never makes my "must-do list" and therefore I pass it by on almost every visit. I feel it's long past its prime and needs a replacement, and I totally agree that the next show will need "pizzazz!" Personally I feel Blast! is the Hyperion's best show by far to date, although that doesn't say much since there are only Aladdin and Steps in Time to compare it to.

If one good thing will stick in my mind about Aladdin after is gone, it'll definitely the magic carpet scene. That got an "ooh-aah" out of me. (the first time, that is! )

I remember seeing the shower a year ago and being wowed by it! I loved it and was really impressed. It was a show I'd be willing to spend extra money on and see outside of Disneyland Resort. But lately it's been getting bad reviews.... probably has to do with them changing their actors.
It would be a good way to bring in some crowds now that the 50th is over.

Dang! I've been to see the show TWICE, and still haven't seen that scene yet! First time, show stopped early for technical difficulties (so much for 'the show must go on'... Second time, it went on like usual, but there was no carpet ride. I'm thinking I will see it SOMEDAY hahaha

Saw it on Saturday at the 6:00pm show. We were floored.

We would pay extra to see this. It was extremely funny and the special effects were impressive, considering this is a live show.

I believe Aladdin dosen't make a very good stage production. Like said above, the whole show focuses its energy on one character, which is very bad because to me, every single character must contribute his/her charcters energy to the production like a puzzle piece. I loved the origninal cast though, they were by far the best.

I've been going to that show for past 2 years...and I think the Jafar's have been great! I don't like Jasmine, the character, period...so I'm biased. But all around, that show is FULL of talent!

Haha, I'm assuming you meant show. Yes, I agree - I don't understand all the negativity about this show. I finally saw it after skipping it too many times, and I was so impressed, and I used to work in theater! For a theme park show, definitely the best I've ever seen.
