Question: Should there be some sort of spelling test to get the job to make signs at Disney parks?
Bad grammar or spelling are bad enough, even for a foreigner like me. For a bunch of guys who are setting examples to kids everywhere, this is downright unacceptable. Shame on them!

I do realize that our school system standards have dropped somewhat but we also have to think about how technology has made it easier for us to be lazy.
We normally count on a spellchecker to get us through the day when typing out a letter, a report or many other different things that we do on a normal basis.

I was going to go into a ramble about other things that have changed about writing but I think I will do that in my blog when I have a little more time to write it out....

Maybe notifying a cast member about it ensures that you read the sign? Heh.

At one of my local Japanese restaurants, the menu overhead reads "Sqeezes Fresh Orange."

Re: Can anyone in Disneyland spell?

Correct spelling is important. I certainly understand the occasional mistake in an online posting, email, etc. But in something as permanent as a sign or in an official corporate letter... unexcuseable.
"Yesterday, a man walked up to me and said, 'Isn't it a shame that Walt Disney couldn't be here to see this?' and I said, "He did see this, that's why it's here."

True, but not even spell check can help you out if you happened to use an inappropriate word, spelled correctly. As an example in a proofreading class, we had to proof a press release with the phrase "public relations" in it. Except that one letter in the word "public" was omitted. And spell check wouldn't have caught it because the word that resulted would still be spelled correctly...

Spelling is not as important as knowing how to write good.

Oh.. *shutters* I can't stand the their/there/they're mistake.

Their = "John ans Hirley love thier puppy."

There = "Marge lives over there."

They're (They are) = "Do the Johnsons know that they're being watched?"

To live would be an awfully big adventure.
