Another misspell was that picture of the shirts that Al Lutz had in today's piece. They spelled Disneyland "D-I-S-N-E-Y P-A-R-K-S". Who did that and then put it on a T-shirt!

Don't ask me about some of the whiteboards I saw at WDW. And most of these CMs are college students!?

Is that Pinocchio thing true? Because I can't remember it, and I know that DinseyLies has that image from the OP and they subtly Photoshop things from the park to look wrong. Like the Indy page has a picture of a wall with the Mara font used to spell "Drink more Ovaltine."

The Pinocchio pictures were from the "Inside the Magic" message boards. Inside the Magic (the podcast and message boards) are very WDW oriented, but they have many cast members that post there, and the pictures I posted were supposedly from Disneyland. The notch, or knot, in the wood that is the same from picture to picture leads me to believe that they are authentic.

Okay, here's my favorite spelling story. Supposedly true.

A student turned in a paper dealing with ancient burial sites, and she consistently misspelled "burrows" as "burros" throughout the paper. At the end, the professor wrote, "My dear Miss M----, it is clear to me that you do not know your a$$ from a hole in the ground."

Long gone. That was taken in April 2005. The sign was fixed very shortly after it was pointed out on another bulletin board on the internet (or after someone pointed it out to City Hall or something).

I think a big part of it is electronic communication. Texting, casual emailing, chatting, VMK, etc. Kids just find it too easy to omit half of every word. Like it's that hard to type out 'people' as opposed to 'ppl'. It's sad really.

Re: Can anyone in Disneyland spell?

I have some friends, ages ranging from 21-40, who still don't know that "a lot" is two words.

Spelling is one thing, but hardly anybody knows how to use a semicolon. They would be much more prominent in our language if most people knew how to use them!

I think I saw a thread a few months ago about some heavy typos in a Disney brochure... they really need some proofreaders! Can anybody find that thread?

They misspelled the name of a character on one of the Big Figs they've been selling in Disneyana.

Also, one time in an advertisement they misspelled "Maleficent" -- I thought, yikes, that's pretty bad.

I also heard that the current spelling "Chernabog" that they are using on merch is not correct, but that is probably debatable.
