  • What ever happened to the CM sign-in entrance?

Sorry if this question has been posted before, but I searched and came up with nothing.

I remember quite a few years ago, we had an animator friend (so you KNOW this was a long time ago ) who signed us into Disneyland. We came in through the CM-sign in entrance which was on the far right hand side...where the stroller rental is now.

After standing in several non-moving lines recently, I began to notice why some lines at the turnstyles just plain stopped and others kept moving. On several occasions, the reason for the stoppage was that a CM was signing in some friends or family, and the process usually took from 30 seconds to 4 or 5 minutes depending on confirming information, getting the dates on park hoppers right and/or polite and sometimes lengthy conversation (if they knew each other.)

My question is....when did the CM sign-in entrance disappear? Why are all the CM's going through the main gates? It seems that it would speed things up for BOTH the non sign-in guests going through the gates as well as the CM guests to have an additional gate designated just for that purpose as well as VIP's.

    Thoughts?

It wasn't just for CMs. It was any complimentary entrance. But with the advent of bar codes on the APs and other admission media, all turnstiles were able to accommodate complimentary admissions.

Come to think of it, I seem to recall that this entrance (or one right next to it) was used for the old-style APs, as well. (The ones that were laminated with a real photo - in color - on the front)

It is not necessary to speed things up (from Disney's perspective) - they already have your money.

Also it is an easy place to make small budget cuts - eliminating one (underused) gate is a way to decrease some costs without impacting safety etc.

It doesn't take that long for a CM to sign someone in..

The tourists arguing about why they need a ticket when they have a handstamp takes longer IMO lol.

you still have a CM sign in entrence in florida.

I hated it... I'll take our current system any day. Why not allow them to check in at any gate? Because of the extra 30 seconds?

          30 seconds never hurt anyone.

In my opinion, it's the floods of people who dont have their ticket out when they get to the front of the line who slow down the flow.
