  • In A Storm?

Ever been to Disneyland during a HUGE storm? Not a light sprinkle or a light rain - A HUGE "EL NINO" storm? I was and it was hysterical.....no Disney poncho could keep us dry - and one point, it didn't even matter anymore that we were dripping wet through and through. We stomped through puddles and froze in the February 1998 storm....but what a memory. We even went on Mr. Toad because in the part where TOAD goes to Hell, it was soooooooooo warm! Wonderful. We went on it three times just to warm up!

Any other Disneyland "STORMY WEATHER" stories!???

Yes, in fact my son and I were caught in one and stood outside of Playhouse Disney just watching the water pelt down. There was NO one there and I mean no one. We got so wet I had to buy himself and I new socks.

One of our best trips. Pictures are in my other computer.

    Ta Da!

Yep. Been in Disneyland when it was coming down so hard that the storm drains couldn't keep up (an age-old problem at Disneyland), and the water level on Main Street was topping the curbs!

Even been at Disneyland when it hailed!

          Yep.

In 2004, my cousin and I went on BTMRR JUST as it began to downpour.

          It was horrible.

My wife found someones blog entry from their WDW trip during Ernesto. Said the park stayed open and everything even though by days end there were literally only 50 people left in the WHOLE park. I'll see if I can find the link and post it. Not really DL but funny anyway.

            I found it:

January 1986 - my friend and I went to the park. Now mind you, we almost got thrown out in the morning because we were throwing Ice Cubes in Haunted Mansion and we hit a man in armor who walked away.....so the ride stopped...the looked in our Doombuggy and the one ahead.....we hid the ice in her purse....and when they found nothing, the ride continued. But soon the place was in a downpour...so we took Monorail to Disneyland Hotel and got out and hung out in the Marina Tower lobby just to get out of the rain. Then we went into the shops by Bonita Tower - Seaports of the Pacific if I remember correctly......then we hung out in the outdoor cantina and waited for the rain to subside. Oh yeah, and then before it did, we saw some naked person stand at the window of his room at the Sierra tower and 'laugh' - so that made us laugh.....a nudee person at Disneyland Hotel!

Disneyland ended up staying open later that night and the rain did subside and PeopleMover opened and everything else did too.......and it was a fun day.

Rainy days at Disneyland can be a lot of fun. I remember this one and it was over 20 years ago.

                Re: In A Storm?

There was a fireworks storm at the Grand Opening of Disneyland Paris in 1992.

They evacuated Fantasyland (as planned) for the fireworks. Then they canceled the fireworks due to winds and re-opened Fantasyland.

But then someone made the decision to go ahead with the fireworks anyway (probably because of the assembled Press). However, somebody forgot to tell Security to clear Fantasyland again!

We were in Fantasyland (with several hundred others) when all of a sudden the fireworks show starts going off overhead..."Holy Jesus!"...and hundreds of showers of fireworks were coming down right upon us!!! Embers bouncing off the ground everywhere. And bouncing off a few people. It actually was pretty neat to see it "raining fireworks" like this up close.

Took everybody about 10 seconds to find cover under awnings and in the shops. We all just stood there and watched the firerain!

Nobody got hurt and as soon as it was over, everyone emerged from their shelters and went right along doing what they were doing without giving it a second thought. Never appeared in the Press. Here in the U.S. there probably would have been lawsuits all over the place.

                That was a fun storm.

Yes, late last year there was an afternoon we went and it just opened up on us. I will look for a picture I took of the Rivers of America area in the rain.

Most memorable for me was the day/night of the premiere of Snow White - An Enchanting New Musical. Torrential rain and wind (for Anaheim...). Everything was delayed and extremely damp, the carefully-planned post-party was to have sprawled throughout ToonTown but was mercifully moved indoors to Innoventions.

I love going during storms. It's empty, and there are plenty of puddles for jumping.

Been through mild rain at Disneyland at various times, but nothing like what happened to us at WDW in July of 05'. While there, the very outer bands of Hurricane Denis made it to central Florida and while not too bad, one afternoon, my daughter and I went into the new Soarin pavilion at Epcot and it was mostly sunny. When we exited it was an absolute downpour, reminisant of that scene in "Forest Gump" where he descibes the different types of rain in Vietnam. Lasted about a half hour and, mind you, it was also 95 degrees outside! In that kind of heat, ponchos were never a consideration. We got soaked trying to make it from one pavilion to the other, but within a few hours we were pretty much dry.

About 4 years ago, my mom, brother and daughter (who was 2 at the time) went for her bday...and it mostly just sprinkled all day, until about 4pm when it started to POUR. We had to buy 2 ponchos to cover the stroller and 2 for my brother and his wheelchair.
My bf and I also went on New Years Day this year and dealt with the rain. My pants were soaked!

It POURED this day! I mean buckets upon buckets. On a Saturday and the best part was, the place was almost deserted. Today I heard we are expecting another El Nino winter so there may be a few days like this in the future.

The one that comes to mind was about 12 years ago, and it too was a February. There were yellow ponchos at that time instead of blue. We kept talking about all the tweety birds walking around. We just made the best of it. Did lots of inside stuff while it rained. During times it stopped, we'd do outside stuff. But it was pouring and windy.
