  • Rare submarine construction photo!

Edit: I originally noted this as "from the construction of the submarine ride before it originally opened in 1959". Eagle-eyed posters on this forum note that this is post-1967, likely from 1968, showing a submarine lagoon drained for refurbishment or construction:

Taken from the old skybuckets it looks like... great picture! Cool to see all the color and gray subs and an actual lagoon without rocks!

Most definitely taken from the skyway. Awesome find!

Everything in the lagoon looks so colorful! I suppose after looking at literally thousands of sub update pictures with nothing but dirt and concrete, I'd forgotten how much color there once was to it.

You're actually wrong on the date. The image was taken, at the earliest, during the late 1960s. If you look in the backgroud the PeopleMover is in operation. The PeopleMover did not open until the 1967 rebuild of Tomorrowland. Cool picture still.

Good call. I think you're right. I assumed since there was no water, that it had to be before the attraction opened, but I was wrong! Thanks for the post.

Yep. They drained the lagoon for service many times in it's life.

            Still...a cool photo.

Totally a cool photo! Agreed, it is colorful. I like it.

Dang, I wish I would've ridden this attraction when I had the chance. I'm glad they're going to be making the Nemo ride there, but I still wish I would have experienced the original...Ah well. =)

Looks good, especially since it was before the chlorine washed all the color away.

yeah that's really weird seeing it so colorful... <10 years is a lot less than the 40 years before it was drained for this revamping but still i'd have thought it'd be enough to make everything discolored.

The photo was probably taken towards the end of this particular refurb.

                                      Good catch lazyboy970!

                                      Frogberto,
Thanks for the picture though... I love seeing old pictures around the lagoon with the Peoplemover in the background!! It makes my heart skip a beat. haha

But seriously... doesn't Tomorrowland look so much more complete with a Peoplemover going by and that track actually getting used! The park looks clean and beautiful! Look at how the Monorail station looks so clean and uncluttered. I picked up a post card recently that had this view but it was after 1977 because it also had Space Mountain in it....

Thanks for sharing this photo with us all!
