Disneyland Orchestra. Your thoughts on an indoor/outdoor stage event.

Whenever I listen to Disneyland music from the park I'm wishing and hoping someone from the exec side of things would put together an orchestra for visitors of the park. Something annual or done twice a year. A television event. Music from the park, some from classic disney cinema, etc.

What are your thoughts on something like this ever happening or has it happened once before?

I'm unaware of anything happening like that now, and I think it's a great idea. Much of the Disney music is absolutely gorgeous. You know, I have the Jim Brickman Disney Songbook...and while it's not an orchestra, it's gorgeous. Reflection from Mulan is just chilling it's so beautiful.

So, yea - I think you have a great idea.

Why not The Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and then a few shows at Segerstrom Hall in Costa Mesa???

They used to have themed Disney and Disneyland concerts all the time at the Hollywood Bowl, with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and sometimes guest orchestras and conductors. Disney sometimes runs the fireworks portion of the shows.

Haven't been to one in a few years, but perhaps they still do them on occasion?

They still do. This past Aug. 18-19 they did a show based on Fantasia, with fireworks. Last year they had a great show featuring the Haunted Mansion, Pirates and the Electrical Parade, among others. And Fess Parker sang the Davy Crockett theme.

They do the same thing in Tokyo, at least in the last two years. And live CD's of the event have been sold shortly after in retail and at TDR.

I also wouldn't mind if the concert was set up inside DCA if Disneyland proves to be a problem with space. An outdoors concert, special ticketed event.

Vic and I went to the Disney-themed concert at the Hollywood Bowl last year and it was just wonderful! I was lucky enough to get us a box seat so we invited friends, took carry-out from Maggiano's and a couple bottles of wine, and enjoyed a lovely picnic before the show. WooHoo!

The concert began with conductor John Mauceri riding onstage in Uncle Walt's antique car. We were treated to tons of Disney classics, an appearance by Richard Sherman at the piano singing "The Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room" and Fess Parker singing "Davey Crockett."

Does it get any better than that!?

Well, maybe. Mickey Mouse was there and the evening concluded with a fireworks display.

BTW: John Mauceri wore a Disneyland castmember ID tag on his tuxedo that evening!

This means that box seats are very available since boxholders only own the box seats during regular season concerts. A box seat accomodates 4 people. The boxes are close to the stage, have tables and wine-bottle holders. They will cost about $400. Split 4-ways, that ain't cheap, but its doable. GET THE BOX! Treat yourself to a memorable evening. Bring a picnic basket filled with tasty treats and live a little!

Having done exactly that many times in the past, I can say I couldn't agree more.

We always bring our own wine...but sometimes we forgo packing our own food and instead "build" our picnic dinner right on the spot from the "Marketplace" at the Bowl. Or we order to-go from Staccato Restaurant right there. And still...on some occasions when we're really lazy (or know we'll not have time) we've pre-ordered a fine dinner delivered right to our Box from the on-site caterer, which is also part of the same Patina Group that operates several restaurants in Downtown Disney. Such fun. We used to be regulars, but stopped going for no particular reason. Been a couple of years since we've been...but this thread has got me thinking now might be a good time to re-visit the place! Nothing like a concert in a Box at the Hollywood Bowl out under the stars...good music, good food, good wine, good friends.

As you say...it doesn't get any better than that.

...and with apologies to Micoofy Duck, I didn't mean to derail this thread. I think you were actually addressing the desirability of onsite concerts at Disneyland. That would be nice.
