Every decade has it's own unique "view" of the future. And my theory is that each decade's image of what it looks like, in their minds, corresponds to the game show settings of the time. As crazy as that may sound, I think it just might be true.
Look at this 1970's game show set...
and this one... (might be the 60's)
They both have a very retro "future seen from the 1960's/1970's feel." It went along perfect with the tommorowland of the time, shown here.
Now look at a game show of more modern times...
Compared to the Tomorrowland of 1998, and Today... they look very different. I think this is what is leaving people confused when they look at tomorrowland today. It doesn't look like what people think the future looks like. The architecture doesn't match what this generation of people thinks of when they think of the future. Sleek architecture, chrome structures, (and cool mysterious lighting!)
Would tomorrowland not look awesome if it all looked like this?
Lights in the ground... Sleek metal architecture.... It just looks appealing. If all of tommorowland looked similar to this style, it would actually feel like the "future".
