  • Disneyland Inaugural 1/2 Marathon Weekend

Just a recap on my Volunteer experience on Sunday.

Arrived at the Resort at 4:30AM! Checked in and started cutting up oranges for the runners. They offered Bagels, Muffins, Oranges and plenty of water for all the runners. Many volunteered for this event. It was fun to be a part of it. Next year I think I will try and do the 13.1 miles. Here are some pictures.

Thanks for posting these shots and for giving your time! My hubby ran and said it was quite well organized. He was pleased with everything, save the nasty toilets at the starting area.

Nice report. Wish I'd made the trip to run. Instead I spend the weekend in Tahoe drinking and gambling. Wonder how many calories are burned gambling?
Good job to all who ran!

Aww, how sad that they didn't come up with a new sporty outfit for Daisy. She always gets gypped.

Tink23--thank you so much for helping with this! I really appreciate the pictures too. I ran the half marathon. I'm no athlete--it was my first official run of any kind actually. Chalk it up to a combination of trying to get in shape and being a Disney nut.

There were characters all through the parks--that was a lot of fun. I gave high-5's to as many of them as I could. I didn't take many pictures because I was too busy just trying to make it, but here's a couple I took with my camera phone.

This (very grainy one) is of the start--notice they pulled out the monorail! Several characters were inside waving to us:

And this (almost as bad) one is as we ran through Angels stadium:

They had us up on the big board as we went by.

My time (2:48) isn't anything any athlete would be impressed with, but it's a lot better than I was expecting. I just wanted to finish and keep from getting kicked out for going too slow!

Thanks for sharing. We wanted to do this, but by the time I got around to checking into it, it was full. Next year!!

TINK23, Thanks for Volunteering! You (and all the volunteers) made the 1/2 Marathon a fun one for me.

jasonknapp, Congrats on your run! A very small percentage of the population would attempt to run 13.1 miles (or longer), so finishing in 2:48 is quite an accomplishment!

I'm pretty sure I do. I was taking pictures at the end of the family fun run where they were, because my wife ran the 5k and my kids did the kid runs. But my camera's at home with them on the flash card--I'll check when I get home tonight.

But I notice them in the background of this one on in the MiceAge article:

Very cool pictures. I'm glad you posted this because I had missed them. I really wanted to take pictures of the 1/2 marathon, but I was afraid carrying a real camera for 13.1 miles would drive me nuts. So all I got was the terrible pics I posted above from my phone (and good pics of the end of 5k which I did not run).

I ran this and wish I could see the pictures, (I've subscribed so I could see it at home). If in the picture of the first female finisher you see a guy with a goatee/beard wearing the number 25 it's my brother He said he had her pacing off him the entire race and beat her by just a few seconds. Turns out he actually won an age group reward (second in his age group if I'm not mistaken) and didn't stop by to pick it up at the awards ceremony Whoops!

It was a good race, I was a bit upset that I hurt my foot on Friday before the race (couldn't even walk on it Friday night) but I still went out to try and walk and see if I could finish the race... ended up actually running about 2/3rds of it and hobbling the rest. Parts of it were a bit boring (while you were outside the park and running down the city street), and there weren't any characters out there like in Disneyworld, or spectators like in some other urban races. I plan on going back next year with a healthy foot and get some revenge .

Since the dawn of time... I think it's time for Daisy to speak to her Agent.

(P.S. Disney, PLEASE give us the Quack Pack Daisy on the parks!)
