  • Explorer Canoes - what a great time!

Sunday after the Micechat meet I went for a solo trip on the Explorer Canoes, which I haven't been on in a while. I guess I just forgot how fun these can be with the right guides!

Sunday was the 1/2 marathon, so I was in a boat with a large group of people in neon green shirts, that said "How's my Running? If I exceed 75 miles per hour, please call (800)...."

Right after we started rowing, a women in front of me started asking about "the track". When the guide said that there was no track, she laughed, saying "come on, Disney is not going to let some tourists just paddle wherever they want"!

And that's where it started. The guide made us all paddle in a 360 circle to prove we weren't on a track. Then he made us turn backwards and we went through the "river rapids" backwards. She still wasn't convinced, apparently -- she said that maybe he hit a button to get us off the track, but that we were back on.

So he pointed to my birthday pin and said "birthday boy, should we go visit the indian village close up?" I think I said something like "*&^% yeah!", and off we went. We purposely (I think) hit a rock to show that we weren't on a track, and the guide said he'd let us out to walk around the indian village, but that he'd probably get fired, so ... uh, no.

When the train went by, he said "it's time for the gun show!", and he had us all raise our shirt sleeves and show our biceps to the train.

With all the fun, two other canoes went right past us, and we had a small splashing fight with one of them. I think she was convinced when we were finished, but I know I definitely had fun. This is going to be a "ride it again" attraction for me. Like the jungle cruise, it really makes or breaks it if you have the right CM involved.

That is a great story! Last time I was in the canoes was a year ago and I got stuck behind a kid who kept splashing water at me with his paddle while his mother watched.

    Ta Da!

That is too awesome. I love the canoes, but its rare that I can go there with someone who wants to go with me. My guy now does though.

What a great story!!! I know I went on the canoes when I was little but have no memory, just a photo to prove it. I will definitely have to make this a must on my next trip after reading about how much fun you had

Hmmm... you know, I don't think I've ever actually been on the canoes (or the Mark Twain, for that matter)... but it sounds like a lot of fun. I was never really interested before...

I remember my first time on the canoes....just about the time of Pocahontas opening up! Our CM lead us through the Rivers Of America singing....."just around the river bend!" That was a hoot!

That sounds like so much fun. I just recently went on Canoes about a week ago after not going on them in years! I totally forgot how much fun they were. Im gonna quote you on this one when I say "This is going to be a 'ride it again' attraction for me."

I haven't been on the canoes in a year or so....but the last time I was on them, my cell phone rang. so...I answered it and was telling a friend where to meet us.....and I hung up and turned to my wife and said, "I be Walt Disney NEVER would have EVER thought this would happen - that someone would get a phone call while on the canoes."

                    We laughed.

I think you would have enjoyed it. If nothing else, it's a good upper body and arm workout!

Right on. If I could work at Disneyland, I would want to work the Canoes.....good work out, you get to really interact with the guests. It's an awesome work out and the costumes are cool - at least I think they are.

I wonder if I could get one and just wear it around the house? Hmmmmm...........:yea:

On Saturday, while we were eating at Cafe Orleans at about 5:30, we saw all of the canoe cast members take a trip in one canoe. They were going REALLY fast past New Orleans Square. I guess it was their way of ending the day and showing how to really row!

My son and I went on the Canoes on our last trip (it was his idea) and we had a blast. If anyone thinks an "old fashioned" ride like the canoes isn't fun for kids, guess again. My boy is 9 and it was one of his favorite rides of the day!

It is a good thing I was not drinking something because it would have ended up all over my screen. This image of your cat, fully dressed, requesting a photo shoot (in an English accent mind you) just really got to me. Wow, I need to go catch my breath and maybe see what was in that bottled water I was drinking earlier...

The last time I was on the Canoes, there was a newbie who took out the raft in front of us. Our guide let us know that it was time to "break him in" so we caught up to him, and we pushed his canoe from the back with ours and spun him around in the river. It was definitely one of the best times I have had at the park.

I enjoy the canoe ride for a few reasons.

                                        - All the people are nice and you meet great people on your boat
                                        - Its not on a track
                                        - great workout!
