Why can't they put some sort of vinyl padding on the bench seats of It's a Small World, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion and other 'non padded' seats in various attractions. Sometimes it can be VERY uncomforable to sit on those rock hard fiberglass boats and doombuggies.....and wonder why this has never been done before? They constantly REFURBISH things to make things better - well this would be better - don't you think? Especially when an attractions breaks down. Last year sometime my wife and I were on Small World and it broke down and we sat there for 40 minutes.....a padded seat of sorts might make it not as bad.

    What are your thoughts?

Water rides + padded seats = a mess.

I think it boils down to wear and tear. POTC, HM, and IASW see thousands of bottoms on their seats every hour. In fact I'm hard pressed to think of any attractions that has padded seats.

Good point Karla. Because if the cushions would tear, then Disney would have to waist their time and money removing the vehicle and replacing the cushion.

DD also has a good question .

I totally agree. For the most part you are not in the ride seat long enough to require padding, breakdowns are the exception not the rule. I don't see how it could be cost efficient.

Not necessarily - that's why I say VINYL - it repels water and is easily cleaned.

Maybe - but then they just refurbish it - like always. Have you seen various little vandalisms throughout the park??? People are going to do what people are going to do.....

I say bring on the Vinyl padded seats.

are you kidding? I have been on seats where people see a small crack, and they dig it open! the rides would be in refurb constantly and what a mess. No the rides are better with out even though your right, the seats are hard on the old tush. But I think cost wise the padding would go pretty darn fast. water makes vinyl crack, and this would be a mess in no time.

Agreed. A good question...with a real good answer. that I also agree with.

Being a "fluffy" gal, I've never noticed the need to have a softer seat on these rides. I bring my own padding with me. I guess having a J. Lo-esque rear does more than make sure Sir-Mix-A-Lot gets "sprung".

Those would have to be refurbished constantly...because people would tear them constantly. It wouldn't be an annual thing, it would be daily.

Have you ever sat on a vinyl seat that's been ripped? It's quite painful. I remember going to an old school movie theater a few years ago, I sat on a torn chair, and it hurt.

If water got into the tears (because again, they'd get torn constantly), you're dealing with mold. Yuck!

Maybe I should just take a padded object- like hemorroid donut cushion and sit on that! AHAHAHHAAHAH Could you imagine!

Well, "It's a Small World" doesn't break down often enough to justify one person's request for softer seats.
The thought of it breaking down in there should be enough to prevent you from getting on in the first place. People have gone insane in there.

Any sort of upholstery or padding on dark-ride seats would quickly become a maintenance nightmare.

Too many "Little Darlings" out there with pocket-knives looking for something to destroy, and it would be easy to slip out a knife and slash away in the dark.

(When they are caught red-handed, Mom and Dad's first reaction is "Oh no, my Little Darling would never do anything like that. The Policeman and witnesses all must be lying, and they forged the surveillance video of the entire incident." In other words, "I hereby reject your reality and substitute my own...")

I don't know, the vinyl I have scratches pretty easy. And what kind of vinyl would they use? 33s? 45s? 78s? I mean I can't imagine that being very comfortable.
